Default 87 Shelby Charger

Ok, I know it's not an LS swap but I didn't know where else to put this post. It's a hybrid/ rear drive conversion.

It's an L67 supercharged 3800 with the T5 from a 98 V6 Camaro, the rear suspension is from an 89 Pont.AWD 6000STE. The diff is from a Lincoln MK VIII so it has some custom cv axles, 3.55 posi. Approx. weight is 2500 lbs. My plan is to make it look like my first car(79 024 Omni) yellow/black, but also use the hood scoop and faux fender scoops from the 81-83 Charger 2.2. A special made "R/T" decal put on the hood scoop in the black area under where it says "CHARGER 2.2". That's my plan. As far as color choice as I haven't entirely made up my mind yet. Any opinions on a color? The yellow/black, red/black, blue/black, or other?

Nice! I always thought those cars were pretty cool looking, too bad nobody ever seemed to agree with me! Best of luck, looking forward to updates!

That thing is sweet. It reminds me a little of the mid-80s Celicas, which I ran around in during winters back in high school. I agree that they're pretty cool, although very few people will actually admit it. Good luck with the build!

The dealer brochure says it originally weighs 2305. I'm guessing I added a couple hundred pounds. Another car I'd be interested in doing is an 83-84 Buick Skylark T type and using the entire AWD setup from a 6000 STE. since they are structurally very similar, then put the L67 in that. With AWD and a supercharged 3.8 it'd be sweet. Or the 81 Olds Omega SX. Definitely a couple different cars I have never seen in person but I think would look good with a little modern cleanup details. The Skylark T looks good as is. Anybody know where one is?

Man I used to work on those cars at the dealer back when I first started out in this business and I hated them until a few years later when I saw the potential they had when fellow techs figured out how to tune them and turned them into turbo monsters but this thing is freakin awesome dude. Keep it coming!

It's running, just finishing up things like making up the radiator and heater hose, button up the wiring, some dynomat and carpet, hangers for the exhaust pipes.

Here's the exhaust. I saw no good way of running it all the way out the back like I wanted to because of the IRS. So I used a pair of Dynomax mufflers meant for a 70 Challenger T/A with the inlet and outlet on the same end to a side exhaust.

A couple more new pics. I added some braces to the rear suspension cradle, made a cover over the hole from removing the spare tire tub because of the suspension and fuel cell. I put the hinge on it for removal of the differential. If I didn't, I would have to drop the suspension to get it out.

It's up and running! I finally got the VATS disabled thanks to Todd at TrackTime Motorsports. I should be at Car Craft next weekend. I'll probably be installing the interior at the show. I also couldn't resist putting in a Pistol grip shifter like they use to have in the Muscle Mopars. It even has the correct 5 speed shift pattern.

Ok, finally after 5 years I took it on the maiden voyage! AWESOME!!! I need to get it in for an alignment this week before I really go anywhere with it. I just drove around the immediate area and to the local gas station to put some fresh gas in it. Some of the houses in the area that are also car guys could tell it didn't sound like no 4 cylinder. Just cruisin' it kind of sounds like a hot WRX, as soon as the boost comes on it turns into a nice'n nasty rap. I definitely got thumbs up doing a little fishtail from the intersection which shocked them for a second because they know it's supposed to be a front wheel drive car, WTF!!! PSYCH

Do you have a build thread?
I was thinking the SRT4 engine and a568 trans would have been easier. I keep toying with the AWD idea for my '87 Shelby Charger.

It's been a looong time since my last post. Well, I had it running last year and this spring after driving it a couple days I could no longer stand looking at it. I've been working on it as much as I could the past few weeks hoping to have it painted for Car Craft here in St.Paul this weekend...... It's going to be close. It's at the body shop right now, I finally dropped it off on Monday because I got held up the weekend before after discovering how bad a repair was on the drivers fender. They really paved it and caved it on the front of the fender. Sad thing was it was a Mopar replacement fender that was dated 6-2-88. So it got repaired once and must've goten hit in the fender again and then they just slapped it full of bondo after beating it down and grinding it to death. I needed to weld the big holes shut on the fender anyway because I'm not using the Shelby lower air dam. Cross your fingers, I'll probably be reinstalling the door handles/locks/windows/trim/mirrors and such at the show. HAHA.
