I'm just starting on my 71 lemans. I have a question. A few actually. I found a 96 firebird I'm considering as a donar car. Will the rear axle fit in my 71? I'm just curious about how much of the 96 firebird I can use in my 71. Any input will help.

That rear axle will not work, which you would know had you actually looked under both cars. For one, the Firebird axle has no attachment points for upper control arms, because the firebird has none. Be a little more observant.

Sorry if I sounded rude. One thing to do before any major project is homework.
You look up what sort of suspension is under both cars.
You compare track measurements.
You make many more such comparisons.
Then, read all you can of this forum.
Buy books on LS conversions. Go on Amazon, there are many. It's all about educating yourself on the subject at hand

The rear in the 71 should be corporate 10 bolt with 8.5" ring gear, which would be stronger than the 7.5" ring gear 10 bolt that's under the firebird. What you can do however is rob the rear brakes off the 96 if they are rear disks. Or if you can find a 98+ donor car, get those "LS1" rear brakes with the internal parking brake. All 98+ Camaro and Firebird have the same brakes base model through SS/WS6 and are a great upgrade for older GM Cars. I'm running them on my car right now and love them.

This sounds promising. Could I use the front disc brakes off the firebird too? Currently the car has drum brakes on front and back.
