Small cam and converter and a light 62 Chevy II would probably go low 12's or better
Nice to place for cool swaps

Great article. I am thinking about the LS engine swap. I will put your idea in a 40 Chevy truck that has a Nova front clip. I will only buy a complete engine and trans with computer and harness pre-tested. I feel safer that way. Anything you can think of I need to look out for other than what your article says. Thanks again for a great article.

I build turnkey LS engine/transmission combos for LS swaps and have done countless car intake swaps.

I use a Gen IV truck water pump because the water outlet is set at an angle instead of straight up, allowing the water pump to clear the throttle body.

You will need the pigtails for the car injectors as they are different from the truck. PM me if you need a set.

If you are still running the truck accessory bracket, you will need to cut the idler pulley next to the alternator off in order to clear the throttle body and reroute the belt.

Let me know if you need any pictures.

Basmith,

I use Alldatadiy.com you can get all of the info you will ever need for your swap. I think its $17 per car for a year.

You will want to make sure that the ECM, TAC, and pedal are compatible with your throttle body There are variances between the different years up until 2007.

The main differences between the LS1 out of a GTO vs F-body:

The GTO has a front sump oil pan. Since the sump is in the front of the motor, the dipstick enters the motor by way of the oil pan and the hole in the block where the dipstick enters on every other LS powered vehicle is not drilled. There is a dimple cast into the block, but you will have to drill it out yourself.

The exhaust manifolds are different for the GTO

The GTO intake manifold was an LS6 style with no EGR provisions, the F-body had EGR except for 2001 and 2002.

The GTO accessories use the same brackets as the F-body, but the alternator is larger.

The A/C compressor on the GTO is larger as well.

There is no torque-arm mount on the GTO transmission.

Default LS swap

Do u know anyone in Oregon or close to the northern southern border that could do a LQ$/4l80 swap in my 1994 z28 Camaro? I have the k member and absolutely everything to bolt it in but I keep running into these poor mechanics= Tims precision in Gold Beach one- kept my car for 10 months, pulled my motor to keep it there then decided he could not do the job! My beautiful newly restored car all scratched up , grease in the interior, then charged me $2500!!! to change out the k member and pull the motor what a rip off. Now its down in Redding at RTS who said they would get it "right away" its been 7 months!! He gave his word!!!

I have every part to bolt this thing together from a guy that did it in his garage in 15 hours-

HELP!!

Page 7, Post #127; in the highlighted box:

Engine - L33 LSX5.3

Engine (2)

Where is this in the thread, I've gone thru it three times with no luck. I want to understand the longer crank on certain LQ4 engines.

Great Thread
