Just to be clear - it's not possible to simply move suspension bits around to convert a rear steer car to front steer or vice-versa. You'd end up with anti-ackerman and the car would handle like shibbit or even be dangerous. To change steering, you'd need to completely redo the suspension with steering arms meant for the application.

Depending on how hardcore you are, you could aways just do what I did and go with a dry sump setup. I bought an ARE (www.drysump.com) pan and notched it out to fit over my crossmember. It allowed me to set the engine CRAZY low in the chassis and still not have any ground clearance issues. Bad part, it costs a lot of money to do this. I bought everything other than the pan used and I still have over $2K in my oiling system

im planning an LS1 swap into a BMW Z3, it too is rear steer. if you take this swap really seriously you may want to do what i plan, tub the firewall and set the engine behind the rack entirely, or at least far enough for the pan to clear. it would definitely be a weight distribution improvement and help out with traction. but the Z3 also has a longer front end than a 240sx

You're going to have a rear weight bias with the Z3. The 240sx, I dunno, maybe it is better to put the sump behind the rack.
I just don't see why this:

These are more expensive than FBody pans, but it's gotta be cheaper than tearing up firewall, moving rack, etc.
I would ask Sean (valvegod@aol.com) for details - I'm pretty sure he can get these as seconds for a very good price. I bought a holden intake from him for $40.

Are you installing all Smog/A.I.R. equipment, and the O2 sensors? Including the fuel tank and wheel speed sensors?
Just bringing up what can happen at the end....mine sits in the driveway waiting for me to move out of state

Jags that Run has been around for a long time, i purchased there book when i first started a SBC engine swap, after awile i decided to convert it to a LS-1 swap. Well this is a larger animal than what Jags that Run would like to take on. OBD-I is one thing but OBD-II is completely different. I will give them a call to see what they think but the last thing i have seen from them is a TBI swap OBD-I

Yes, I believe the OBDII swap in Cali is a daunting dealio. A guy on HybridZ.org sold his LS1 powered Z car due to the certification issues. But then again, another Cali guy bought it, so....
Seems foolish for Cali to make it difficult for someone to remove their old, inefficient, polluting carbureted motor and replace it with a modern, clean burning computer controlled mill. Must be frustrating as hell. I actually have yet to get my car inspected. State regs here are much more relaxed though.
Perhaps you could glue an air cleaner on the top of the intake manifold and tell them it has a carb?

It's a 99 Pontiac 32K w/ T56, clutch hydraulics, drive shaft, ecu, wire harness, pedal assy, and even a Hurst shifter; $3700
As they were about to put it in my truck when they noticed a small leak from the tail housing, owner of the place swapped it off another tranny that had other problems. They cleaned the part, and reinstalled it in less than an hour. On the easy drive home I had a smirk from ear to ear thinking of what’s to come. For now it sits in my rear room under wraps until I'm ready to move along with the project.
Tommarow I have to swap a junkyard KA24DE into the other 240 that's going to be my daily.
At any rate I picked up my LS1 today. Might be a little pricey but these guy's are 5 minutes from me and they come recommended by others on the net.

BTW Incase anyone is looking they will sell a complete pullout LT1 w/ M6 for $2500 - $2800 more or less depending on condition.
