Default LS1 into Aussie 63 Belair

Hi All,

I have an LS1 that I want to put into my Australian Delivered 63 Chevy Belair.

Pics here:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/introduct...lair-pics.html

I am after some pointers on the most cost effective way.

Do I replace the engine mounts? Or get some adapter plates?

Are these off the shelf? Or ideally is there a template I can use to make my own?

Thanks heaps!

i doubt you can find any pre-made mount for that car. I know on ebay there are various ls1 adapter plates you can find. I think you will have to custom fab something though

There are different adapter styles, depending on how far forward or back you want the motor to be. Look at these. http://matt.undiagnosed.org/ls1/imag...t_plate_V2.jpg and this one http://matt.undiagnosed.org/ls1/imag...ount_plate.jpg
The FAQ in the stickies above have alot of info you could probably use.

Nice 63. Not many of those still around in factory fresh RHD.

Is it an 8 or a 6?

If it is an 8, i.e. probably a 283 right or at least a similar SBC, then most mount kits will allow different chevy engine mounts to bolt up. There are plenty of options. Just depends on what design your current mounts are. Can imagine they changed them just for Oz RHD.

Thanks, and they are far from common in Oz.

Its an 8, I have just pulled out a 350 and 2 speed power glide.

Where are you in Oz? I have a spare set of the second design mount plates shown in the pics, plus engine mounts, that I should really put on ebay or something.

I am in the process of a similar swap on a '61 Biscayne. I got motor mounts from www.brphotrods.com as they allow use of all the factory ls1 accessories. There are a few other companies that make them as well. They were around $400 US if I remember correctly.

Oh, I forgot- comes with the transmission crossmember as well, for either a 4L60E or T56
