Default LSX M3 exhaust suggestions?: question 2, thermal shielding

I am finally about to get back to work on my project.
98' M3 with LS1 - street/road course car

Looking for peeps input/experience

I'm looking at exhaust options.
I really want to run an x-pipe with dual mufflers.
Space is a bit of a concern b/c I want to run it down the stock exhaust channel and exit in the stock location.

My plans so far 3" SS pipes with X and dual mufflers. Looking for opinions on what sounds the best. So far I think the spintechs and Borla XR1's sound pretty good. Would really like muffler to be SS construction but that limits my choices.

Second options is to run a single X flo muffler. I can't really find any sound clips for these and I'm not sure if there is any other advantage to it other than space/price (only one to buy)

Some may say the 3" duals are overkill, but I'm keeping future upgrades in mind. Currently the cars is expected to may lower 400's rwhp.

Secondly, I'm looking for thermal sleeving to shield brake lines and fuel line from headers/exhaust. The flexible braided brake line are less than an inch in from the headers in some places. Any suggest a good brand of thermal sleeving? There are a bunch out there I know.

Good luck getting dual 3" pipes to fit. I used all stainless on mine and it has held up well. I have 3" pipes through 3" dual cats then to dual 2.5" pipes with an h-pipe. The pipes are next to each other back to a single Magnaflow dual 2.5" in and out muffler in basically the stock location. I originally wanted to use dual 3" all of the way, but it just wasn't going to fit.

I have sleving on the fuel line as it comes into the engine bay and have had no problems in 8000+ miles in all conditions and using the ac during the summer. For a true road race car you would need to do more, but not for a street car.

Yea, I was thinking the same thing about the space. You are probably right, I need to have another close look at it. Duals all the way will be heavier too, not really what I want.

Bringing this post back up b/c I'm planning on making changes to the exhaust.

Right now I have 3" pipes into an X out 3" then stepping down to 2.5" which goes into a 2 in 2 out Spintech Sportsman XL muffler. The muffler measures 16"x10"x3.5".

It's too freaking loud. Great for the track, no so great for driving around town.

I'm trying to find mufflers to fit in place of the Spintech. I'm looking at 4", 5", and 6" inch round mufflers from Magnaflow and Dynomax. I hope that two of them will be quieter than the one Spintech and flow better.

I did see this test. Interesting to see no mufflers made the least power. I'm guessing they didn't make any tuning adjustments for each individual muffler test.
