Thanks everybody for the compliments. Been going slow lately, and now it's getting cold, and I lose some of my motivation when it's so cold in the garage that I can see my breath, so it'll probably get even slower!

I did however manage to find a factory tach, I think it's an unwritten law that if you build a '72 Chevy truck, it has to have a factory tach. It came out of a dumptruck, so it's also got a vacuum guage to fill the unused hole in the dash.





And I got the TAC module mounted and the oil pressure line hooked up, and that's about it. I hope to get some more done tomorrow.

I hear you about the cold. I was digging in the attic today figuring what I need to put an a/c drop in there for a little heat. We got to put our truck on Christmas tree duty despite the cold today and that was good enough for me.

Nice tach/vac dash. I've never actually found one of those in the "wild" but I always check the big trucks when I see them dead. Mine was found by a friend in Alaska and he dropped it off in a box on my parent's porch one night.

I feel you on that. I just looked at the temp and it is 35. Today is when I usually hit the yards seeking goodies for myself and friends but I'm not sure it will happen.

Nice build. I hate when quick and dirty projects turn into full restorations. It's hard to know where to stop.

friend is doing the swap as well and he swears the pan has to be swapped...LOL
i lol at him the (truck pan) is damn near the same as a 350 pan. he is thinking his 72 needs a LH8 pan.
can you confrim for me so i can show him, the boy is silly and hard headed
i have a pan and all for him free of charge.

Looks great.. I have 72 with 5.3 in it and 67 nova with ls1,, we have alot in common.. I wish i would have done my truck the way you did it.. Bought basket case and rebuilt myself,, I bought mine with 5.3 and paint,, then had to redo alot of things.. Lessons learned.. The Ls series motors look like they were supposed to be in that truck from the beginning.. It's been a little over a year since i've been to LS1TECH and first thing i go to is conversions and see your truck,, VERY COOL,, GOOD LUCK!!

depends on how low the truck sits.
I am at stock and it fits just fine, brother is lower and we might swap to different pan.
but the truck pan fits/clears great.

Mine hangs down about 1 1/4 inches below the crossmember, but the a-arms are probably lower than the pan so I don't think it will be a problem.

Sure, it should work good, I haven't changed anything in the brakes other than the booster.

My truck oil pan was below the crossmember too, and since I have airbags, I didn't want to chance it, so I switched to an F-body pan. Fits great, and no worries.

I've had 4 67-72 pickups and none have had factory tachs The Gas gauge spot is perfect for a 5" autometer tach though!

BTW, I fired mine up last weekend!

That is a great looking truck! I will look for you on power tour this year in either my '69 C-10, or my '70 K/5. Whichever one I'm driving will have my turbocharged LSx powertrain in it

What wheel / tire combo is that? Size and backspacing? They look AWESOME on your truck!!!

I've also had a handful of these 67-72 muscle trucks....none of them with a tach dash. My stuff is/was all plain jane trucks to start with.

I looked for quite awhile fore the "right" wheels. And they're not cheap.
Anyways, they are Raceline Speedsters

The rear are 20x10 with with 5.75 BS I'm running 315/35/20s on the back on a 72 5 lug axles (wider than the 68 axle) My wheel wells are tubbed too. The tires come within about 1/16" from the wheel well at full dump.

The fronts are 20x8.5 with 4.25 BS with something like 255/40/20s (can't remember for sure). Initially the front tires rubbed the inner wheel well at full dump, so I used a set of CPP modular drop spindles that move the wheels in about 1". These wouldn't be neccessary if you order wheels with less backspacing, but the spindles were much cheaper than new wheels.

BTW, if I move back to KS by the time Power Tour comes around, I would definatly try to go.....it's a little far from Washington.

What are you doing for a fuel filler?

And how much was involved with the ss fuel tank install? From what i have read on the truck forum you moved the rear riveted crossmember back, ground the frame a little and drilled a hole in the web of the frame for the filler neck?

I am doing a low dollar swap into a 68. I am still buying parts but should have the motor in in the next few weeks.

Did you get the throttle pedal working?

Congrats! That's always a good feeling seeing it fire off the first time. I even like the smell of an engine that's been sitting for a while when it first starts! Have you driven it yet?
I saw your truck last year on the Tour. Saw it the first day, and took some pics the second day in Racine while I was freezing my *** off!

Haha, that's awesome!! I had the turbo setup on and running for literally less than a week when I made that trip. Was tuning it on the way there LOL

Will be quite different / more refined next time you see it.
