I thought the f-body clutch was some kind of reverse set up. Like the throw out bearing is pressed away from the engine to release the disc? I could easily be wrong though. I figured you were just going to run a ford 10 spline disc with whatever pressure plate you had in mind.

Can you run lets say a clutch disc for a ford and just use lsx style flywheel and pressure plate and just run the ford TOB? or is it the length of the input shaft that is different? The t56 I have already has a 26 spline input shaft upgrade when I had a 03 cobra. Ed

After an 8 month break I got back into the car.

Modified the 90mm Accufab throttle body with a pulley similar to factory. Allows me to use the factory cable.

I wanted a better steering wheel, so I bought a Longacre but no adapters exist for it so I made my own. I bought a used steering wheel and cut everything off of it except the steel center. Welded a steel disk and milled an aluminum spacer to position it properly.

I finished mounting the oil tank but no pictures yet. Next thing is the exhaust. That was my downfall last year. We all have an aspect of a project we do not like but must get through. Me, it's exhaust pipes!

Default T56 cable actuated

Were you ever able to make it work cable actuated? This thread seemed to die and I have not been able to confirm that anyone has done it.

Yes I did. Here is the problem (and solution). The clutch pedal/quadrant pulls ~1.5" of cable when the pedal is fully depressed. The ratio of the fork being what it is translated to insufficient travel (compression) of the GM diaphragm. After "screwing" around with it I bit the bullet and cut 1" out of the fork (to make it shorter) and get the proper travel. You need a cut-off wheel on a die grinder to do that. The Ford fork is heat treated and a regular bi-metal hacksaw blade will not even make a dent in it.

I will upload a ton of pics soon but for the time being you can see it here. It starts at post #57.

This project is still progressing. I am building the motor right now. I picked up the refurbished trans yesterday from Liberty Gears. As I indicated earlier it is a '03 Cobra T56 with LS1 input shaft. The trans was a basket case and Liberty being as busy as they are it took a while for them to repair it.

The car is definitely going on the road this spring.

It certainly is a baptism by fire. I had to learn how to use a Bridgeport and a lathe. Plus my aluminum welding skills are much improved...

I will say that my respect for guys who toss 40~50~100k at a shop to "build them" a car is at an all time low. In fact I laugh at them now.

I have to tell you, I have been building parts for my stuff for a while. I do not have the ability to weld aluminum or anything like that, so most of my stuff looks...lower grade since it is all made out of steel. Currently I am making parts and such as I am putting a diesel into my bronco.

Me too. It's amazing how far a dash of talent, some patience, the right tools, an odd idea and a splash of creativity can take you. It must be nice to have tons of cash but I've always had to build my own stuff and have never paid anyone for fabrication work.

I know a guy who is into cars and can't even change his own oil, spark plugs or brakes. The guy is completely mechanically challenged and needs help from someone for everything or it will be royally rigged or destroyed. I could NEVER live that way and may well be dead.

Default update

I fired it up today. After endless hours it runs quite well for a motor with the "wrong" computer. A little rich but a few runs on the dyno should fix that. It does not want to idle. Not sure why. I don't know how to test the Ford IAC to make sure it works.

Default Tune

I got it tuned up on the dyno yesterday and not bad: 460 at the wheels.

The tuner felt it was easier to tune than most GMs he's had. More "responsive" were his exact words.

Needless to say I'm pleased with the results. Now I'm thinking I could do other projects with the Ford EEC-V computer and non-Ford motors. Seems like a good combo.

What's funny is I told the tuner to dial in a conservative tune. Judging from the A/F ratio and the ignition advance there is probably another 40 at the wheels. But the car has serious traction problems already... on slicks!

So I'm happy and I'm done.

I forgot to bring my camera. In any case the motor sounds just like a Mod 4.6L with X-pipe.

I have a video of it idling in the garage but it's not interesting. I'm going to the track soon and I'll post one lap around it. Much more interesting.

Did you have any other mods or just the 5.3 with the intake and exhaust?
