Default exhaust questions for A-body

Has anyone been successful at using a stock exhaust manifold in the 64-67 a-bodys? Im doing a 5.3 using S&P style adapters into a 64 Chevelle using the stock cantalever frame mounts and have truck manifolds. The passenger fits great no problems, but the direction of the flange on the drivers side puts it directly into the frame. I notched and boxed the frame and it still isnt going to work. I am trying not to go header route due to funds, but I can get a stock replacement shorty and mod it easily, Im just hoping someone else has done this?

That would be awesome. I ordered a set of Edelbrock headers for the tahoe through my comercial account at O'rielies (don't have to pay for them first) just in case. This one single subject is the biggest hold up of anything else. Everything else I was able to use OEM parts with some modifications. I have no idea why the manifold flange points slightly to the outside. Again thanks.

I have stock fbody manifolds on my 65 cutlass A body same as a 66 or 67 chevelle. They fit perfect like they were designed for it to begin with. I used the stock cat flanges to mate up to them with the pipes.

I believe there are two types of LS1 F-body manifolds last time I checked. 98-00 and 01-02. Not 100% sure on the dates but i've seen two types of manifolds. Seems like the 98-00 are more the header/tube type but on my 02 it definitely is a cast iron manifold.

I have a '01 Camaro using the Camaro stock exhaust manifolds in a '66 Chevelle. They fit in OK, but would hit the frame when the engine starts. I removed a 1/2 inch section from the collector flange on each side and it no longer hit. I would imagine you will probably run into the same thing.

98/99 = layered/formed stainless sheetmetal

00+ = cast iron

Darn was off by one year. Thanks for the clarification.

Sorry to hijack but since it's sort of on topic... does anyone know which one flows better? Is it an insignificant difference? I'm able to grab a set locally of the 98-99 and I still have the engine out.
