Default F-Body Motor Mounts in an A-Body

I'm curious If there is some reason why people arn't using F-Body motor mounts to install their engine in an A-Body. I'm thinking about welding a couple of ears to the crossmember and using the f-Body mounts. Am I missing something here?

I've got the edelbrock adapters and ,of course, the engine sits too low and the tie rods hit my Autokraft oil pan. So I need to shim the engine up about 1/2 inch. The Edelbrock plates, also, prevent me from installing an A/C compressor in the factory location so I'm rethinking the whole mounting idea and am considering trying to use F-Body mounts. Has anyone tried this? Am I going to run into some problem I havn't thought of? Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks.

i was going to use fbody mounts on my 65 abody. i made up some offset plates for the crossmember. i was going to weld some ears on the plates to connect to the fbody mounts. but i ended up getting a set of mounts from brp(which i was`nt impressed with for the money i spent) when i ordered my headers. i dont see any reason why they would`nt work. by making your own, i think the only problem you could possibly run into is header clearance. you would just have to keep playing with the placement until it was right.

I think with the 4th Gen F-Body mounts. They would make the engine sit up a bit too high, but if you could alter them by cutting and welding them to the height you need and mount them to the crossmember. Like anything you can fab up.. it will work.
Most people just use the aftermarket adapter plates because most of the time it is just bolt up and go with them.
The other option is to fab up or modify something and that causes for someone to re-engineering something which takes more time and skills.

It can be and has been done and frankly I don't why more people aren't doing it. Bczee probably doesn't remember but I picked several A-body guys brains during my build to measure the height of their mounts. After seeing the measurements I was able to simple cut the f-body frame mounts they are saddles just like the after market mounts and use them by welding them to a plate that bolt to the cars cross frame same as original mounts. They work great. you can see them in my build thread https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...ject-pics.html I was in a hurry and didn't take any time to make the plates pretty they are flame cut but could be made nicer if one desires to do so.

Rocky. Yeah.. I remember!.. as I said in this thread. It can be done. just need to time and skils to do the job.. anything is possible if you just take the time to look at what you need and think about what can be done to get it done.. .. But like I said, many just take the easy way.. and just throw Cash at it ! LOL..

is that ready really on your car now !.. or just photoshop'd

Bczee, sorry I slowed down and read your entire post. I thought you were saying the f-body mounts would make it to tell when in fact you were talking about the frame mounts. My bad any how it can be done and I like the fact that I can buy a replacement motor mount locally. At least I could have before they went belly up..........
