Default LS1 '35 sedan does "Route 66"

We just completed a three week Route 66 tour from the West coast to Lake Michigan and returned the Northern route.

Great trip, met great people, saw as much of the "Mother Road" as possible. I guess my skills as a builder are passable...the car was a pleasure to drive, dependable and just plain fun!!!

I think I'd do it all over tomorrow if I didn't have to find a job and go back to work!! We came home with over 1500 digital images, these are just a few.

The Barstow Museum at the old "Harvey House"

We had only one minor problem, the recent rear end overhaul ( I PAID someone to do!) the pinion bearings were fried by the time we got to Kingman, AZ......bummer.

Mid Way Cafe in Adrian, Texas.....half way between Santa Monica and Lake Michigan

The Conoco Station in Shamrock, Texas....made more famous by the "Cars" movie (as many of the Route 66 sights were)

Lake Michigan and then turn around to head back out west. We toured Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah and ended up in Las Vegas before heading home to the Coast. Awesome trip...I love my car!! We averaged 25 mpg running the LS1 sometimes 80 mph with the A/C on.

Wow, I am certianly jealous of you! I've been wanting to tour classic Rt. 66 for a long time now, hopefully once my swap is finished it will happen!

Congrats on what looks like a fabulous trip.

I've always wanted to drive route 66. Been on parts of it, and somewhere I've got some pics of that Conoco station too. How many miles did you drive?

Our total mileage was 5280 from Santa Monica,CA to Chicago (Lake Michigan) and back the northern route. We made quite a few side trips....exploring, taking pictures.

Thanks!!!

Talking

That's freakin' awesome man, driving the western portion of Route 66* is pretty high up on my list of things to do before I croak...
* (at least through AZ & NV - somehow, the rest of it just doesn't interest me)

It's great that it went as well as it did, although it sure would've been cool to see your car when you were in the neighborhood!

Heh - that's kind of cool in it's own way, given that 5280 ft equals a mile...

Ken, the picture I posted wasn't at Grant Park where Route 66 actually ends....we spent the night in Evanston after spending the afternoon in Grant Park and drove to the park there in the morning....MUCH easier to manage traffic-wise.
