Default A-body headers on the cheap! Check it out

FYI....98-02 F body shorty headers will fit perfect, just did it last night in a '67. And 64-67 is a much tighter fit than 68-72 cars, so they will clear by a mile in those cars. Didn't think it would, but they actually fit better then the $400 ones edelbrock sells for the damn car! Best part.....$140 bucks. I know they dont make any more power than a stock manifold, but for people looking for ground clearance or just looks and want a cheap header that fits good....here ya go!

Awesome! I was asking before whether long tube F-body ones would work but never found out for sure. I am proceeding with my "cheap" header plan. I just bought a set of long tube 2 inch primary (Hooker header 2455) headers brand new for $131 and a set of GM LS1 header flanges for $50. The plan is to cut the big block Chevy flanges off and TIG the LS flanges on. I will just have to mock up the engine and trans in the car. I did match up big Chevy headers to LS1 manifolds and they are very close so with a little bending/sectioning it will work great. There is also a local guy that does nickel plating for around $100. I am shooting for a set of awesome looking big/long tube LS1 headers for around $300 not the $750 they want on the net. I have to "cut corners " somewhere. I can't wait to get my T56 back so I can build my mounts and mock everything up. I can't wait to start my project thread.

Yes, it has been known for sometime that 4th Gen LS1 header will work or with minor modification.. so .. Shorty and Mid will also work. A few swapper have already used them.

Using BBC with the LSx flanges has also been done, a plus is that BBC header usually have the larger primary tubes.. Many of the Fox/Mustange's have been using this method for Fox Body headers with LSx swaps.

Truck header are not a good match, the rear exit will point to the Firewall and Vette ones will point into the X-Member.

Was not aware that the 4th GEN F body Long tubes would work in a A body. What are the points of contact that need to be modified? Steering shaft?

I can not remember who the member was, but it was a 70-72 chevelle and I beleive that a tweak of the collector was all he had done.

But as with all swap headers.. it all depends on which mounts and/or where you locate your engine as to if your going to have any clearance problem, but in general, they do fit. Also, IMO, If your F-body OEM Exhaust Manifold will fit, then generally F-body Headers should fit as a general rule of thumb or is a good starting point.

my 02 F-Body manifolds fit pretty well. Not fantastic since I had to grind some off the passenger side flange and some other extra tabs used in the casting process but they fit pretty well none the less. It would make sense that a set of shorties should also fit. Given the performance gains is marginal if any, i'm going to stick with the iron for a while. This is good info to know though.

I bought the 98 camaro shorty headers off of ebay . They would not work at all on the left side so I cut and dented the headers to make them work. I will try to post some pictures when I get time. These were on a 67 chevelle with car shop mounting plates. I also had to clearance the right side also.
