help with engine stands
In a 70 Chevelle nothing, the stands are different for a 307 and a 350/396/454 but other than that there is no other difference. The six cylinder is a different story though. The big block and small block have the same distance from mount to bellhousing.
I have been searching the same thing. When refering to the 68-72 Chevelle and the 70-72 Monte Carlo V-8 frame stands, the parts that bolt to the frame crossmember were offered in two different types like Bowtie70SS said. The 350/396/454 stands are the same, with the 307 different for some reason. I found a picture on here somewhere where someone compared the difference. There is a "Short and Wide" version, which should be the 350/396/454 style, and the "Tall and narrow" version, which is the 307 style.
The Short and Wide version takes an engine mount that is 2-5/8" wide inside clearance (engine mount slides down over the top of the frame stand), the Tall and Narrow version takes an engine mount that is 2-3/8" wide. There is also a difference with the actual bolt location that bolts them together. The Short and Wide version has the bolt centerline at 1-1/4", while the Tall and Narrow version is at around 1". Stealth71 had some excellent pictures explaining this that I will try and attach. Good luck
