Default wiring Help??

I started my ls1 yesterday for the first time with no exhaust couldnt of have done it without this site. Thanks every one Here go some more ?? their is one little problem every time I try and pop my rear hatch, its an 85 iroc the motor crancks. I checked the wiring diagram in the camaro manual but could not find any wiring diagrams for the hatch. The only wires I used from the existing harness were the purple wire witch goes from the harness to the switch and the two red cables that were hooked up to the old starter. I ran those two red cables to the + starter. Any thirdgen heads out their that might know whats going on here. any help would be more than welcomed Thanks again

I don't have a third gen diagram either, but it sounds as if the solenoid for the rear lid release is getting its ground through the starter solenoid. Now you said you hooked up two red wires to the starter??? Typical for GM is one big lead for the starter (red) and a purple lead to the solenoid. Where did this other red wire come from??? Could you have hook up the wire that goes to the alternator?? That typically has an eye on it , and may look like it could be hooked up to the starter. I still couldn't see how the rear hatch would be getting its ground through that???? I drew up a little schematic to explain much better than I can put into words.

the two red wires actually both hook up onto one eye, these were previously hooked up to the starter, so you can say its just one wire. I cut one of the wires and the crancking stoped but the head lights wouldnt get no power. so im assuming one wire is for power at all times and the other is for the switch. But now I think that crancking is the least of my worries . I just finished wiring my oil gauge and to my suprise the pressure would not go over 10 psi . Its the stock gauge. Im hoping its the gauge and not the pump. I had just gotten a cam and some springs installed could this have anything to do with the low oil pressure. Ill try a new gauge, and go from their wich do you guys recomend, I was looking into the atometer sport comp gauges would these work with the oem sending unit. I guess if that doesnt work ill go to the pump. I was looking at the 01 ls1 pump from gm parts direct for 60 bucks would this work.

It turned out to be the gauge. I purchased a cheap 20 gauge from the local kragen and ran it to were the existing oil sending unit was. I just screwed in a adapter i purchased at the local ace and hooked up the gauge. The gauge quickly went up to 50 psi Well guess im going back to that hatch button. I was thinking of just wiring it so that it only gets power when the switch is on. Thanks again to everyone
