Default electric temp sender question

i am installing autometer electric temp gauge ,was using the adapter to fit into the rr corner of cyl head and thread in my sender.
as ive read on here, the sender is too thick and inside of adapter must be drilled out.
i have done this 2 times, perfectly set up on a drill press, straight and centered as a computer could get it.then as installing into the block,it breaks off at the top of the threads as soon as it gets into block, almost no muscle behind it.

heres my question, can i grind or mill down the temp sender to fit instead of drilling the adapter??
will it affect temp readings??

thanks for the help

Do you mean a factory GM temp sender? If so, then yes I have cut down a couple of the 3/8" GM senders and re-threaded them already.

Screw the sender into the adapter before putting into the head. Use the copper crush washer and some thread sealant. The sender stops the twisting of the adapter and stiffens everything up. Doesn't have to be gorilla tight, just snug. That's how I did mine anyway, and it hasn't leaked yet. I used the Autometer adapter, not the Equus junk, twisted one of those off first. Part #2277 on the adpater from Autometer....

i am talking about the autometer adapter and sender, not the gm.

i did install the sender first, did use the crush washer, wasnt even close to gorilla tight, hadnt even crushed the washer when it broke.

i have found the stuby sender,i ordered one and gonna see how it works out.

has anyone drilled and taped the plug down by the oil filter, brass one with hex head, screws out??

Autometer makes a sender that is "low profile" that should fit in the adaptor without modification, I just used it on my LS2 swap. I believe it was autometer part number 2259.

Yeah, that is what I did. I posted pictures in a previous thread. Try a seach. You can fit just about anything that way.
