why does everyone switch to the car water pump?
Im just curious but it seems that 98% of the time people will buy a truck longblock but swap the waterpump to the car model?
can I ask why?
also, if I use the truck accessory drive is it possible to mount the alternator down low like on the cars?
finally
I want to run only the alternator and waterpump off the belt. what do I need to change?

most people swap out to ls1 intakes , so the neck on the truck wp innerfers with the throttle body and the throttle body interfers with the pulley on the truck bracket. so they buy the car waterpump. ls1 alternator bracket lets u mount it down low like u want with a custom back bracket or drill the block. or u can buy the ls1 c5bracket and mount the alternator up and out to the side.
FIRST PIC IS A 4.8,5.3 OR 6.0 SWAP

LS1 C5 ENGINE

thank you all for the reply. special thanks to vandejr.
so, I would love this alt setup setup but since Im planning to use a victor intake, I have some questions
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c150/vandejr/LS1b.jpg
what would I have to change to run that bracket? can I still run the stock truck water pump and pulley or does all that have to be changed as well?
also, since I'll only be running the alternator, are there any special requirements around that?

i asked the same thing but i noticed that the truck pulley sticks out a lot more then what i would need for the ls1 water pump. i have the ls1 water pump on my lqx now and the crank pulley stick out SO MUCH so i got an f body crank pulley and its a lot shorter. so i would have to say no you can't

You need a large 3 jaw puller to pull it (autozone has one as a loan a tool)
You will need a metric bolt, rod, or LS1 specific puller to pull it back on. I forget the thread size, but a search should turn it up. Also check out the tools section for pics of the installers.

Thats definetly not a stock 99-07 silverado or hummer bracket, or ac compressor for that matter. Maybe it was in a van or something? ive never seen that setup in my life, on any year truck! somebody help me out here....

There was a thread recently about using modded small block brackets for a swap. The alt/power steering look like stockers, but the a/c is defiantly early 90's with the comp and tensioner. Nice set-up actually.

this guy is using all the stock truck accessories and he is running in the 8s.
I love how he cut down the ugly alternator/power steering bracket and made it look presentable.
this is exactly what Im gonna do. run all the truck parts and keep things simple

before i send em out. cnc machined. lighter. i could go on.
ive done the ls swap about 6 times now into different cars. the parts i developed for swaps have taken into account and eliminated. most if not all the usual annoyances related with accesories swaps, especially in older cars that used to be sbc.
