the last tune I tried tonight ended up being the best. I used a 6.5 power valve, 70s and 74s, and 3/4 turn out on the idle mixture screws which gave me almost 13 inches of vac. It seems to idle the best and run the hardest with this combination in a 650DP. I heard it pinging on the big end so I'll back it down two degrees to 30 tomorrow. It feels like 100 hp difference from yesterdays 67/72 4.5PV.

650 or 750? I got a BG 650 with the 6.5 pv and 70/78 jets from the factory. Motor's not built yet, but hopefully I won't have much tuning issues. Not gonna spin past 6k til I can upgrade to a larger carb.

if not, you can drill them, but i dont like doing that unless they are removeable.
that will help cure some issues.
also, if you butterflys dont have holes in them, you can drill .090 (or 3/32 bit, easier to find)
helps lean it out some too.
Yup, and I've already gone up to #75's from the stock #71's and didn't see any change. My idle screws are 5/8 turn out from full in. I guess it's time to step up even larger... I've got a WB kit, but haven't had time to mess with it yet.

For clarification I wasnt saying you were wrong by not passing 28* I just didnt want him to stop there without trying to get all he can out of his combo. Your setup is definitley not run of the mill either. Its pretty badass if I do say so myself.

sorry. been slammed at work.
i cant find any pics before hand, but it wasnt a perfect carb. well it was, but i had rebuilt it and drilled and changed jets, restrictors, etc per AED.
sent it back to them and they didnt even clean the main body. still has black chit all in it from the backfires id have.
the main body was bright silver, now its almost black. that look when aluminum gets hit with a harsh cleaner.
i sprayed it down with carb and brake cleaner a thousand times and it didnt look like this at all.
strait back from AED out of the box.
even the idle misture screws have some red staining in the knurls of the head of the screw. appears to be rust, IMO.
i should add that i did NOT want to pay 150-200 bucks to have the carb stripped and recoated to as new condition, so i told them to send it back to me as is.
guess they got me....

i have yet to run it, but i am told it is good to go.
not sure if im going to use it or sell it yet.
