CSR Thermostat housing HELLLLLPPPP! okay seriously cant find any good answers anywhere on what thermostat to use with my ls1 csr thermostat housing.
theres quite a few threads on here with people having the same problem but nobody seems to have a good solution yet.
i called csr and they rudely wanted to get off the phone but said i need a old school 350 thermostat thats 54mm
im wanting a 160 degree
ive used mr. gaskets, ac delco, and a super stant 160 thermostat... (old school 350's)
all dont fit
does anyone have a part number that fits in the housing??????

I run a standard 180 degree SBC thermo in my straight CSR housing with no issues. If you are seeing that the thermo is a bit loose inside the housing, mine was the same way, but it works just fine. I have over 5k miles on my setup.

I picked up a standard 180 for a '70 Camaro 350 from Kragen. It will fit loose in the housing. The CSR guys told me it is supposed to be loose to let a small amount of coolant pass when the stat is closed. I have been using mine for 3+ years like that with no problem. In what way have the ones you have tried not fit?

Im working on his car and have used the CSR piece before but I think its redesigned now. The actual nipple for the radiator hose screws into the base now and i thought it was all one piece before. The themostats "top" or whatever you want to call it hits the inside of this nipple. I really thought the old ones were one piece deals. The redesign is not working with any of them so far.
I went with these guys. It uses an LS2 thermostat that even has the heater hose divider within the water pump.

Verdad Gallardo I've got a spare old syle 1 piece. Is yours 2 piece, ie. the hose connector screws on, is it a standard NPT thread? Post a pic.

Hmm, i have one of the new 2 piece design ones, and am using a 160 degree standard AutoZone thermostat for a SBC 350. It doesn't fit loose like i was told it would, but there are no leaks and temps are staying under 180 so far.

I have the same issue.... I haven't got to completely test it out but I may have a solution. I bought one of the old school, what I would call fat bottomed stats they sell at the auto parts stores in the hot rod section (where the carbs and intake manifolds are). Mr Gasket #4363 Balanced Thermostat for GM/FORD/AMC. It doesn't fit perfect but if you dent in the three prongs on top it fits.
