Default Fiero manual steering box/rack?

When I swapped the first v-8 into my racetruck I just blocked off lines and capped the sterring box lines. I read on here somewhere that you could use a Pontiac Fiero manual box/rack for weight reduction on race or track cars?

I would like some more info on this. Is the Fiero a man. box, or a man. rack? I want to get the bulky power steering box off the front of the truck. Thanks for reading

So, I guess I'll just look for a manual steering box from an early S-10. I was just wondering about the possibility of using the fiero man. stuff. I hadn't had any luck peviously locating a man. box for S-10's. Thanks for the reply NemeSS!

I saw one guy from Ontario post on MalibuRacing.com that he put a Fiero rack into a G-body with very little fabricating. Unfortunately he vanished from that site without ever giving any details.

The manual S-10 steering box (with pitman arm) is a bolt-in for gbodies so they come up for sale for $60-$100 regularly on the site I mentioned above.

Thanks, I'd like to use a man. rack and get rid of all the other crap. I may still look for an S-10 man. rack.

What year is it? if its an earlier fiero the chevette rack should bolt right in. The fiero front suspension was the same as the chevette until the last year or 2 of fiero production.

84-87 Fieros are essentially rebadged Chevettes
88's are the only oddballs for their short run

It weighs 12lbs

Easiest for a rack truck would be the Manual S10 box as its a direct bolt in

The post was about using a Fiero manual box did get rid of my blocked off power unit on my 1985 Track S-10. I'm still going to try and find a manual steering box from an S truck I guess. I was just wondering if I could loose a little weight by using a fiero unit over a manual
S-10 box.

It might be more fab but can you use a rack off another vehicle? Lots of drag guys use pinto racks, they are pretty light and strong enough and pretty cheap.

here is a link to wilwoods reproduction pinto rack, there is another link off that page to a technical drawing with all dimensions, might help you see if it will work or not.

I used to work for a rack & pinion supplier. We sold a ton of Pinto/Mustang II manual racks for custom jobs because they are so light, and have 2 very simple bushings so that it can be adapted to almost anything. And you can buy it from a regular parts store without race car prices.

Ask for a manual rack for a 1975 Mustang II, and look at the pictures.
