67 Nova stock clip conversion

Engine position in stock clip With my old 400sbc /700r4 setup I removed the trans a couple of times for different torque converters and each time the trans dipstick tube seamed to be wedged between the head and the firewall. (Too Tight)so when I was faced with the job of locating the engine I moved it forward about another 1/2 in. then I thought the GTO oil pan was too close to the cross member so I took the cross member off and trimmed the rear pinch weld edge. It ended up the 4L70E trans mount holes fit the same spot as my 700R4 trans mount .
I am going to look at a early Nova wagon with a 5.3 in it this week end to get some ideas.I would like to keep the engine to firewall clearance about the same as my current engine,this will give me the most room up front for accessories.

I just used the standard adapter plates with solid motor mounts. I made my own but they are just like the ones that Car Shop Inc offers.

Using those style of plates keeps the engine close to the firewall which leaves a little more room for the front accessorys. Let me tell you there is not a lot of room in the engine bay with an LS engine in there. Also with using the standard plates there is no need to trim the front cross member and the cross steering shaft clears the GTO oil pan perfectly. The only thing that concerns me with the GTO oil pan is that it hangs a little low and that the oil filter is right in the front.
I need to get some updated pics, I now have the shock towers filled in and I am running a chrysler master cylinder. Also with the GMPP intake and a cast throttle body elbow it still clears the stock hood. I just need to get some Katech rod bolts and I can set the engine in for good. Hope this helps you out.
