5.3l 1989 240sx Winter Build-sspx0180.jpg

let it set for a minute and then washed it off. came out ok i wiped it down with a rag/brake clean and then painted it "aluminum" so looks pretty clean now
5.3l 1989 240sx Winter Build-sspx0181.jpg

also painted the gto oil pan
5.3l 1989 240sx Winter Build-sspx0182.jpg

Ive been doing alot of shopping over the weekend so should have alot of parts coming in. Hopefully the motor will be sitting in the car within the next 2 weeks!

Oh and as far as the valve covers and aluminum being stained mine were too i tried brake clean on it but nothing changed best bet imo is just paint them.
im not to sure i should have painted the heads the real aluminum looked nice but no turning back now....

Nooooo, not that aluminum paint! That stuff is awful, lol..
Personally, I'd stick with black for iron parts, and aluminum parts just leave as is.. but thats just me

5.3l 1989 240sx Winter Build-sspx0191.jpg

5.3l 1989 240sx Winter Build-sspx0190.jpg

Friends started on the motor got the new cam put in (not sure on specs its a regrind tho) and new valve springs one of my buddies is letting me use. Got the water pump on

no pics?

and then we ended up running out of time so we just pushed the car back inside and pilled everything in.

Not sure of the next time ill get to work on it I might try and tinker on it during the week. Ive been trying to figure out how to wire this thing up? ive searched and searched but not anything solid. Ive got a 98 pcm and harness i just need to know what needs to be hooked up to get it running? I know its gonna need a reprogram and stuff deleted but what wires need power and where does it come from on the car? Any help would be appreciated. Ill keep updating as we go along

Be sure to let us know how you handle the wiring. I've been trying to read up over on silviav8forums but only casually. honestly it's the only part of this swap that keeps me up at night.

Looks like im just gonna send my wiring to daft innovations to get done. Saves me alot of hassle. On that note.... UPDATE!

Got some work done this weekend (ive been lazy lately) Just to sum it up:

Old motor mounts, battery tray, and random useless brackets removed.
Engine Harness Out
K-member and front suspension out
Built a car dolly to roll it around the garage and etc.

Was gonna post some pics but having problems with being over the forum quota? If anyone could help me with an easy way to post pics let me know

Try uploading them to photobucket, then use the img code to get them to show up.

Default Update! Finally.....

OK long time no worky, Ive been lazy the last month or so and been doing a little work on other peoples cars. BUT I did buy parts and finally did work this last week/weekend.

FIRST

Assessed the situation:

then began unbolting stuff:

and finally its out and nasty:

did i mention all new God speed suspension: Front and rear Control Arms, tension rods, toe rods, sway bars, RS coilovers etc...only in the box pix as of now tho.....

anyway then i tore it all down to the parts i needed:

....

soaked it in acid/ degreaser and got it ready to torch out the old bushings:

and they are toast:

and the finally popped one of the bushing sleeves out:

cleaned up the rear knuckles. any idea on how to get the rust out of the hard to get spots would be helpful.

.......

Just for a quickie I also tore down the front k member, prepped and painted the knuckles, and tore out all the rear interior....

...

...

...

...

I think thats about it for now. we will see what happens in the next few weeks this weekend is putting a d1 on a 5.0 stroker mustang so should be fun

looking good, you'll have to let us know how well the Daft harness works. I'm leaning that route. I'm not very electrically inclined so I'm thinking contracting out the harness work is going to be a must.
