water pump fitment question for LS1 miata
alright so my understanding is that an ls2 water pump will fit on a ls1 and is lower profile. Does anyone know how the if aftermarket one from edelbrock compares in size. I need as much space as possible to fit a radiator on my miata.

We used the LS2 pump on an LS1 from a Camaro. We spaced the pump out by 1/2" to get the pump pulley in-line with the serpentine belt, and used a CTS-V tensioner with (4) washers behind it. Works great, we picked up about 1-1/4" or so of extra room. We got the spacers from Wegner Automotive -- they cut them down for us to the dimension we needed.
If we did it again, we would go with 3/8" space-out. Note that you have to use (2) sets of WP gaskets (.06 thick), so your final thickness for the spacers if you go with Wegner is 7/16 or 5/16.

I'm running a fat PWR radiator, LS2 pump and C5 pulley on my LS6 Miata ('01) with no issues. My issue came with the front swaybar hitting the pulley by about 1/8 inch so I had to build a bracket to move the sway toward the front of the car a 1/2 or so.
