Interesting. I am a firm believer in cast pans as opposed to fabb'd pans.

I wonder how tall the front of the pan is (for tie rod clearance on A-body's)

The guy is starting a LS engine swap business. He has posted over at Team Chevelle and his stuff looks good as far as I can tell. http://www.chevelles.com/forums/show...ht=ls1+oil+pan

It looks like an lh8 with 1.5 inches chopped off and then smoothed. Nothing wrong with that as my next build will go that route and save me about 300bucks over an autokraft pan

It’s called the LHX

This oil pan is cast at the same foundry that casts the LS9
It has 2in better ground clearance then a LH8 and has a total depth of 5.5In
5 quart oil capacity not including the filter.

Includes
Oil pan & Oil Pan Baffle
Custom Oil Pick Tube
Drain Plug, Oil Cooler Cover assembly and gasket

The pan uses the OEM LH8 windage tray, OEM LH8 filter and dipstick.
The pan is going to ship in 4-6 weeks times. The Pan has been through all the prototyping and has going into final production and is awaiting the final production run. The first batch is going to be only 50 units, so I’m taking pre-orders on this set up

The pan will clear the A-Body set up and will be the pan used in a new line of lsx swap kits and stainless headers currently in development that are going to be considerably more reasonably priced then what’s currently offered. Test fitting with early cast pans have been started. Some kits will retain OEM pans if possible but ground clearance issues are now a thing of the past in swaps that used the LH8. I will also be a sponsor on this site as of December and will have more technical and pricing upon that time..

With the added ground clearence and the having the OEM lower/rear bolt being utilized, this seem to be a pan that is going in the right direction for Swap.

I am about to start my 71 Nova Swap with a LS1.. so I am going to try this pan.. I have already communicates with them on ordering one to be getting one of the 1st 50.

I used the champs pan in the nova, no complaints. but going forward I will buy a cheap lh8 for $30-50 and have my welder lob 1.5" off the bottom. he charges 30 for cast alum so thats $60-80 for the pan. it will have the same oil capacity as the lhx pan above at a much lower price point

Where are you getting an LH8 pan for $30-50? If you can get pans that replicate that LHX for far cheaper you should make a bunch and sell them. I know I'd be willing to buy if I could pick of better ground clearance of around the same price as SDCP sells the LH8 for.

The pan offers a smaller rear sump over the F-pan that offers better clearance to swaps. This is not for all swaps, a 2nd or 3rd gen camaro run an OEM ls1 pan without any issues. Yet some other swaps need this for ground clearance and front accessory clearance such as a first gen, A-Body G-body and countless other swaps. There is countless way to do swaps this is just a new option. This pan is priced on par with most aftermarket pans also note that no remote filter is needed and this is cast not stamped sell. As for a modded OEM pan there is a lot of issues when you cut a cast pan. Also note that with a cut pan, the OEM pick up tube would also have to modded as well. The other issue without the smoothing of the pan the OEM lh8 with have far less oil capacity then 5 quarts

sounds like it will make for an excellent bolt in type pan, and also have the factory look. and no longer need to chop up used pans. should sell strong.

Default New LSX oil pan

Great pan for the "A" & "G" body cars as well as others. I liked it so much that I ordered one for myself. Also Shawn (RetroLSX) is a great guy to deal with.

Just curious, but what improvements have been made on this pan to clear steering linkage on an A-body? To me it looks too deep in front just like all the other pans that run into clearance issues up front?
