Default Fox Racecar Conversion.....

I just bought this car and I sadly do not know alot about mustangs. I purchased pretty cheap for 3850. I have a 402ci iron block that I will be transplanting into this beast. I still have to find a transmission...you guys think I should go turbo 400 or 4l80? I also need to get a harness, but thats the easy part. The car already has the AJE k-member, coilovers, built 8.8, fuel cell, cage, and gauges. If anyone else has any ideas on a paint scheme let me know because I'm not so sure that I'm feeling the blue with lavender flames (kinda ghey).

Id leave the paint as is, should put people off a little (and it looks like its in good shape!) Is the 402 going boosted, sprayed, or na? What gear ratio is in the rear?

It is getting boosted and the rear gear is 4.56....

Here are the turbo pics....I'm thinking about selling the kit if anyone is interested for 1000. I need a bigger turbo. It's a universal kit that was originally on a Trailblazer. I have the oil pump as well.

Does anyone know what these brakes are off of?

If you don't change the gears a TH400 is going to be a little bit much depending on the tire you're running... even a 4l80 will be a little hairy with 4.56s. I'd run some milder gears, but you can leave it together for now until you get the motor mocked up before you decide.

I will be removing them. I will be installing some 3.42 gears I have here later down the road. I just want it to move under it's own power first.

I agree 4.56s too high. 3.42 much better choice. If you are going to boost it why bother with the overdrive go with a TH400. Lighter and less rotating mass. Are you going carbureted?

I'm running a 3.31 gear and seriously considering a th400, nice that it wont blow up very easily!

It will be fuel injected. I wouldn't even know where to start with a carburetor. I use EFI Live and I am decent with it so I should be ok.

Ok it's been awhile and I just got alot done. Turbo system was fabbed and built in 2 days. A buddy of mine came and helped me get it all done. Alot has changed on the build so far, but the new turbo stuff consists of:

Forced Inductions S-88
JGS 60mm wastegate
Tial BOV
2.5 hotside and 3 coldside

Started with building a brace to hold the turbo and brace it as well

Then we formed the pipe to the T-6 Flange

Then mounted it and welded it to the frame rail

We had to slash cut the wastegate tube to clear the tire

Here is the finished product and it all unbolts out of the car easily

Im gonna have to trim the crash support to let more airflow in

Ok I got alot done today. I finished the downpipe and the cold side plumbing. I had to cut the firewall to fit it all. Some people will probably not like it, but it's my car and it's just going to be a fun driver/semi race car. It will not qualify for any nmra or nmca classes anyways due to the powertrain combo. I cut a piece of 5'' piping in half to make a patch panel and I am still filling in the gaps, but it won't be noticeable mutch from the inside.

I have to install the torqu box reinforcement plates tommorow and weld them up. Does anybody have any links to picture installs of how it's done. I got the UPR kit if it makes any difference. I also will start the wiring of the painless harness next week. The machine shop called and said the real motor is going to be done on tuesday as well. I still have to pick a color though. I thought about FLAT Navy Blue with maybe some red in it somewhere or a cool shade of Green. Here are the pics:

Downpipe all welded up with 5'' to 4'' tranistion we hammered down

Overall view of the product

How on earth are you going to get to those plugs? What about the wires? Looks really tight.

There is actually alot of room where the plugs are on the bottom. I am not mounting the coils on the valve covers anyways. I have a really good spot to put the coils on the bottom of the frame.

The rear is a 8.8 and it is common for the ford guys to switch to explorer carrier/axles and brakes because the explorer is a higher spline compared to the other 8.8's. And you're crazy for running that exhaust like that...it's going to be a nightmare when you want to work on it.

The exhaust is fine. It unbolts in two pieces and comes right out.
