Default 4.8 Question !

I don't know if this is the right section for this !

I found a really good deal on a 4.8 LS engine. I just want to know if 317 heads will fit on it "? I know they'll fit on a LS1 but the 4.8 is the smallest bore that GM offers. We have plans of boosting this engine and it'll go into a 1974 Datsun 260Z. I know stock they the hp ranges from 270hp to 295hp and torque is 280lbs to 304lbs. I'm thinking this would be a good engine for the 260 stock but why not get more out it especially if its just a project and won't be on the streets alot if we can put down between 375whp and 450whp that would be great for a car that weighs 2500lbs.

the 317 heads will fit, however it takes it too low of a compression for my liking, around 8.4:1 for such a tiny motor. I will be doing a 4.8 with 241 heads and that will put me at 8.8:1

will not need to use 317, scr will be way low. leave stock heads, if anything spend your funds on studs, fuel and tune.

I am aiming for 650 at the wheels through an automatic and a 9". I am trying to trade my s60 for a 9" at the moment so I can run lower than a 3.54 gearing.

I am going to be running a 226/232 howards cam, a borg warner s475 1.32 A/R with a quick spool valve. Should have boost about 4500 and shifting around 7500-7800.

Only thing I am doing to the engine is katech rod bolts, the cam, and new springs and pushrods and 241 heads Maybe some caddy lifters if I decide they are needed. With the 241s i will be at 8.8:1 CR. Guy over on theturboforums.com has a 4.8 with a 230/236 cam with a pt88 pushing 702 at the wheels on E85, 6k worth of abuse and looks brand new

That's some serious power ! Then 500whp shouldn't be any problem getting then. My dad will probably use a R200 rear end out of a newer 280zx and a 4LE60(but I don't know what stall though). I think he's trying to kill himself with that much whp in a super light car for the street.

Thanks for the info everyone ! I just have to secure the engine now and we'll be getting started after we finish his 90' Procharged Vette(its up and running, just working out the little odds and ends).

This is a different one

The best turbo I had on that setup was a Master Power T70 with a .68 a/r. Made 505 are the rear wheels with only a small 208/210 .551/.551 116lsa cam, at 11psi of boost. I think I ran 12.6's @ 107mph weighing about 5500lbs.

After talking to him for a while, I decided on a 4.8 since I got one for practically free lol. Me n him have talked quite in length about his setup, and what I am doing for my setup.

Should be pretty fun. I love doing stock motors because if i blow it up, im not out much
