Engine start up with out ignition wiring
As long as everything is fused, you can put the IGN onto a constant 12v source like a battery. Id suggest temporary only, such as test stand or first start to test connections etc
If you are trying to check the health of the engine without running it.. I would suggest you try a Leak Down tester or compression tester to start wtih. Pop the oil pan, valve cover and the lifter valley cover off to inspect the engines internal. Thats about all you can really do without starting it up.

Technically you can't start any engine without ignition wires. But if you're talking about the engine harness, then Pocket is right, just do it temporarly.
