1984 Corvette "LS1" Engine Swap/Build
#25
I'm not educated enough in cams to give advice, so hopefully someone else can chime in. There seem to be some good upgrades and good deals on cams in parts section of this forum. I got the cam I m putting in my LQ9 from another member on here. I would post a question in this forum asking about some cam possibilites for what your goals are. Good luck.

Might as well do a 02-04 ls6 cam or something while its there. Would be much easier with it on the stand than in the car, plus you can get ls6 springs and cam for next to nothing. Seems like alot of truck guys do this. Should atleast check it out.
Yeah that motor is NASTY on the inside. When I did the cam swap on my trans am it had 125k miles and was NOWHERE NEAR as dark as that under the valve covers.

I am a senior turning 18 in June.
The C4 is great. I have yet to even drive it but my brother has an 84 vette that he finished restoring 5 years ago and he loves it and I love driving it whenever i get the chance lol.

All I can say is I hope you marked the hood hinges position well! I have rebuilt a couple of C4's and it can be a bitch to get the hood to line up, open, and close right. Keep plugging away on it though!

Just an update on the build...
I hit a brick wall trying to attach the tranny to the motor. I have a couple of things to try out but nothing to post picks of yet. Once I get everything worked out I will post pics and most likely put the motor into the car for a test fit. And then its electrical and making everything look good. Like cleaning the engine bay and painting the motor.
So on the to-do list for the rest of this build and in the order that it will be completed in(most likely) :
1. Attach tranny to motor
2. Figure out electrical
3. Try to Make Long Tube Headers
4. Do an LS6 cam upgrade (still debating)
5. Clean engine bay
6. Soda blast Engine
7. Paint Engine
8. Install engine
9. Work out the accessory brackets and Belt layout.
10. Get it running
11. Put car back together
12. Donuts in the parking lot
I will try to post pics of as much as I can

I am using my stock 4+3 Doug Nash tranny. I need to get a 168 tooth flywheel, that is adaptable to a 10.5 clutch since i have a brand new clutch and dont wanna put down alot of money. I am also not sure if I need a new bell housing
