Default Any alternatives on bypassing VSS...

From what i gather, you need to wire in a VSS to help idle, especially on a max effort cam(which is what I have). Is there any alternatives or easier way to work with VSS? What did you guys do about it. I was advised that it could be turned off in the program, but I will have idle issues especially with a lumpy cam.

TIA
Chris

I think the bigger issue is coming to a stop while driving. The engine will occasionally want to die.

Vehicle Speed Sensor. It's in the tranny and tells the computer how fast the car is moving.

while on decel, the ecm can pull timing. not a tuner, but this would be my guess.

pretty sure VSS dont do squat at idle! most importantly, it provides a couple hundred extra RPM when decelerating down to stop.think about it...when stopping, butterflys are closed but you might be from 60 mph-0, and the motor will want to stall without this extra rpm

With the GMPP kit VSS is optional. So they dont see it as necessary, but then again that tune is for a specific engine with manual trans and electronic throttle control.

VSS is used to transition back and forth from different idle control modes.

With LS1 PCM's/cable throttle there are tuning options that a good tuner can use to work around lack of VSS if there are any issues.

Thanks for the input guys.....

My concern would be on stop and go traffic. Although my car will not be a daily driver, I would not like to stall in traffic as it will get annoying.

So in conclusion, VSS controls the on/off throttle. And I guess I have to talk to a tuner to see how it could be bypassed. Any other experiences?

Hey, I saw your post in the Audi thread that you were stuffing a LS into a Porsche, so i searched your posts ( yes i was stalking you for a moment) to see what and i can actually answer this question. Easiest and cleanest way I have come up with is to use one of the factory ABS sensors. You can tune for it with HPT, the Porsche VSS is a no go. The other (RH) solution is using the 944 cam gear split and bolted to the cv shaft with a sensor, it looks horrible.

Good luck with your swap, If you need anymore info, I am in the middle of the same swap myself, and have been researching for a few years.
