Default balancer pulley bolt

in my service manual it says to buy a new bolt after removing the balancer. I was wondering if this is really necessary, and if so where can i get one, i looked at my local advanced and they dont have it. also does anyone know the diameter and the thread pitch on the thing, so i can buy a piece of all thread the same size? thanks

I was told that if you used your original that it would eventually back off. If that happens then the balancer can spin on the crank shaft. There is no key, just press on fit. I got my balancer bolt from the dealership for 5 dollars. Instead of using all thread, I went to Fastenal and ordered the bolt through them for three dollars. You can also get one that is reusable from ARP.

Always use a new bolt if you are taking out a GM bolt. The GM ones new are $4.75. We then have some of our ARP style ones for 21.95 or the ARP on the blister card for 26.50. The ARP ones are a) longer b) stronger c) require an 1 1/16 12pt socket d) reusable e) have a taller head for better area to keep the socket from slipping off f) all of the above. Choose wisely.

yup just like the head bolts, the factory bolts are degree'd not just torque speced so they stretch and therefore have to be tossed.
