Default Good crate motor price????

Hey guys,

Being FARRR from an expert on the LS motors, I was wondering if this is a decent deal for the package. http://www.ultrastreet.net/engines/427_ls3.asp

I am building a 65 GTO and have watched B-Man and other's threads regarding A-Body installs. My main questions are (1) is this decent package for the price and (2) would it be possible and worth the expense to look at a Magnacharger for this motor a few years from now??

If this isn't that good of a deal or the company is questionable, do you have any direction I should go????

Any input/advice is greatly appreciated.

From what I read, Mast is top notch. I'd personally buy a engine from them ***IF*** money wasn't a issue. I would either go the base LSX454 or L99 416 with its VVT. Real close in price and they come with harness and ECMs. At least when you purchase from MAST motorsports

Thanks,

I have heard good things about Mast from a few people. My concern was that there are sooo many combos out there that it is a little difficult to price compare at times and this package seems to include most of the required equipment, however either way it is alot of $$$$$

It may be worth benchmarking off a GMPP crate LS3 and GMPP harness kit.

Probably about $8-9k for something like an LS3 delivered. Or around $14.5 - 15k for an LS7 with controller kit.

MAST does add in considerable value over a GMPP LS3 and its really about whether that is worth 4-5k additional value for the user's application/objectives.

Certainly one space where MAST will be in front is that their controller supports GM electronic autos whereas the GMPP engine controller does not.

Given it is a forged 4.1" stroker and is hand built with good parts vs production line assembled, run in on a dyno and does 610HP, sure sounds like reasonable value if you are after a 427 with 610HP ready to roll.

Don't know about the price but that is one hell of an engine. I think it is cheaper than an LS7 motor but with a lot more HP.

11:1 compression ratio is pretty high for a blower. You might give them a call and tell them you want to go forced induction. Since they offer a selection of accessories and oil pans they might be able to subsitute some lower compression pistons.
