Pretty sure that Mercedes auto trans is actually the same as the tiptronic in the 911, 996 guys with the tip often use Mercedes builders and parts to beef their transmissions.

Surely no Mercedes runs a rear engine configuration for the trans to work ?

I see the mentions and them saying they are the same.

But no Mercedes I'm aware of runs the engine behind the box ?

So I dont get how they would bolt together in a rear engine setup and drive the car forwards lol ( unless they used reverse )

Do they flip the ring and pinion and the box is in the front behind the motor like a WRX?? ?? (Wild guess...)

You cannot simply flip such parts.

Those who use the Subaru box in a rear engine configuration, requires a custom made ring and pinion to allow reverse rotation.

Some guys using Porsche G50 etc in kit cars for mid engine, flip the entire box over to get forward drive.

Not ideal, but it does work for them

Not to drag this further off topic, but how is it not ideal? I've heard quite a few people say that oiling can actually be improved quite a bit beyond stock when running the Porsche boxes upside down

It wasnt designed to run upside down....I dont see how doing so would ideal !

Ideally it would be the correct way up.

first off I'd like to thank the guys at DIY Auto (www.DIYAuto.com) for the nice gift !

they had the Porsche build hosted on their site as well as a ton more great builds !

now back to the subject ,,,,, MORE INFO PLEASE!!

how would you go by adapting the transmission to the Ls bolt pattern ? I assume the simple kennedy manual adapter plate should do the trick right?

also what would be needed to connect the flexplate to the engine? should a blank ls1 flexplate be bolted to the crank and then drilled for the correct torque converter holes? or will there be some spacing issues?

and anyone know what the wiring schematic on the 722.6 trannies is? what wire controls what ? or do they even make a stand alone transmission controller for that thing?

I have so many ideas running through my head right now

Do you have a individual breakdown of all these parts do you? I found a tiptronic car and need to convert it. Great build thread btw!

Hi Guys

I'm UK Based and was searching for wide body arches for my 986 Boxster and saw this image. I clicked the link which brought me to this string but after searching through I don't see anything. Does anyone recognize the image and give me a link to the manufacturer or distributor?

TIA
Andy

Check the sign on the window of the business the car is in front of. They might know, if not directly involved.
