Default LQ4 into '98 Trans Am

Figured I'd go ahead and start a build thread of my LQ4 swap into my '98 Trans Am. The motor started knocking in early December. I'm pretty sure it's a spun bearing due to being a little low on oil, and I think the oil pump was on its way out. Picked up a freshly rebuilt '02 LQ4 for a good price, and now I'm going to put a cam and some L92 heads, with an LS3 intake on it, and try to make some decent power. Here's a few pics from tonight, getting the LS1 out of the car finally. Couldn't have done it without my Carshop Inc lift plate I picked up today. That thing sure is handy. Stay tuned for more, as the swap goes on.

The build is actually done now. There didn't seem to be a whole lot of interest in the thread, so I never really bothered to update it. Plus, I was so busy with it, that I didn't really have time, or think about taking very many pictures.

Not yet. Still working on getting the clutch completely broken in, and waiting for a little more money to pile up before a dynotune. I'm really not in that big of a hurry to do it anyways. I might not even keep it. I was gauging interest in selling it, or may end up trading it and some cash for an '03 Kenne Bell Cobra.

Should make more than that, on a Dynojet. If not, I'm definately getting rid of it. lol. Carcraft built an LQ4 with L92 heads, carb intake, and a 228/230 .571/.573 cam, and made 550 at the crank, which would be ~470rwhp. And my cam's a fair amount larger than that, and spec'd for rectangle port heads. So, I'm hoping it should put down ~475-485rwhp, assuming I'm on a dynojet.

lol. If I was closer I would. It was actually a lot of fun doing it all. It helped that I did it over winter though, instead of during a time when I could be driving it. It's time to change the exhaust up a little on it though. I think I'm going to ditch the H-pipe for an X, and replace the single chambers with Super 44's, for a little quieter sound, and better tone.

Next Tuesday, the numbers should be in. That's the soonest Speed Inc could get me in. I can't wait. I have a couple minor issues I need to get figured out before though. Definately need my new o2's to get here, since both of mine are bad.
