newbie, with a newbie question. Hello fellas, just found this site. It's impressive to say the least.
I've never messed with a 5.3, So, I'll explain my situation.
A guy is going to pay me to swap 5.3's in a 99 silverado. and i get get to keep the old engine. The old engine has issues of course. He took it to a mechanic and the mechanic said it's got a blown head gasket. It has a miss and the oil pressure gauge bottoms out from time to time.
My questions, Is the 99 model 5.3 ok? I'm asking because it's so early in the production run. Is it feasible to rebuild this engine? as opposed to buying a good one?
Application will be either a 50 mercury or a 72 chevy truck, I haven't decided.
