I have 275/40/18 on mine and there's a finger's-width of room between the outside sidewall & outer (inner) fender, and to the best of my recollection there was still about an inch or more between the inner sidewall and framerails/leafs... I say do a 275 for SURE, maybe even a 285 or 295... I can take pics of the 275 fitment for you tonight...

These are a 275 on an 8" rim (ideally I woulda picked up a 9.5) with an equivalent backspacing of 4.375" on a drum rear end.
A piece of 1/4" MDF barely hangs in on the outside, and there's a constant 1" clearance all around the inside. I'd say if you were confident the rear wasn't going to float side-to-side too much, go with some more backspacing and do a 295 filling up the inboard side!!
If not, could stay conservative and do a 285 with 0.25" less backspacing to bring the rim inboard a bit more.

you need a 15x8 5" B/S if you have a stock width rear, if its too tight you can push it a bit and do a 4.5 B/S on a 15x7 & a 275/60/15 but a 8" rim will be better i have done both, right now i just switched rear ends 12 bolt to 9" with discs, was same i width , i had a 255/60/15 street tire on it with a 4.5 b/s which fit ok but wouth clear my new wilwoods and probally wouldnt of worked witha 275 i had other rims (same ones) but in a 5.5 b/s and they just barely contact the shock stud(on the traction bars) so .5" spacer put it perfect....= you need a 15x8 with a 5" b/s to run a 275/60/15, i have done several rims/back spacing on my nova...

I will have to find the pics, but i have The DSE kit in my car , they told me that I could only run a 10" wheel and a 295. I had a MT 325/50/15 drag radial on the rear of my car on a 10" rim if would have had a .25 more back spacing they would have cleared with 0 rubbing.

use 5.5" B/S wheels and a .5" SPACER thats what i'm doing, i tried a 15x8 with a 4.5" B/S they will fit a 255/60/15 but a 275/60/15 will rub on the outter edge/qtr panel...even if trimmed/ rolled, novas are a bit tight, B/S has to be right

I agree on the 8", 5.5 bs as thats what I ended up doing too. A 4.5bs wouldnt work on my car as it rubbed the outside wheelwell pretty bad. Every car is different though and should be checked. Its sure easier to make a 5.5" bs wheel a 5"bs wheel by using a spacer......the same cant be said for a 4.5" bs wheel if it ends up rubbing the wheelwell.

Alright fellas I want to run as wide as tire I can on the back of my 1970 nova project without tubbing.....rolling the fenders is fine as I still need to do body work and paint. would like a large wheel at least a 17" 275 would be great bigger would be nice also what info can you provide me. it is a leaf spring car the shocks have been relocated to run a larger tire......please help me with size width and backspacing or offset.....i want to be able to order them online...the front i don't want to run pizza pans but would like to run something like a 225 or similiar up front with no rubbing in corners....also would like to have the same wheel size front and rear dont want a 17 in back and a 18 in front or vice versa want to stay the same 17's all around or 18 all around nothing bigger than an 18....okay ill sit back and hopefully someone can steer me in the right direction
