Ok so instead of spending $800 alone on just a wiring harness, another 100 for the pedal and such i need. And then even more for the electronic transmission. Then the tune and so on. Ive decided to go carburated with my build. The local pick n pull sells any tranny for 155 and rear end for about the same. So im going to pick up an 8.8 with disk breaks and lower gears than my highway gears now.
Then for the transmission options are nearly endless with GM motors it seems. 700R4, TH350 TH400 and so on. TH400 and the 700R4 seem to be the most popular with LSx engines.
So what would you recommend i go with? And what vehicles can i find these on?
I will be daily driving this, to school, work and such. Longest trip i can see would be 3-400 miles on the occasional visit to San Antonio.
I dont want to turn a million rpm's at highway speed.
The truck will see track use. On weekends, but not every weekend.
I dont know crap about GM transmissions so i figured i would let everyone here chime in. Thanks

700r4 will work and bolt to ls, any trans mentioned will work with. but will need reinforcement if decide to go to track or run hard on the streets.
dont go with 3speeds unless its more of a weekend ride. and plan on max effort. 700r4 came in all kinds of late 80s-early/mid 90s pickup trucks and camaros. rebuild kits and parts are fairly cheep for 700s

friend has a 700r4 i think it is out of a corvette, was rebuilt for a beefy LT1, was in the car for about 200 miles until the motor had something go wrong, been sitting out on the floor since then.. Could i use this?

prolly gonna have to rebuil if it went out. they wont last too long behind powerful motor unless they are highly reinforced. as long as there equipped with good internals, deeper higher capacity pan, and proper cooler. it should be very reliable behind any mild street/strip ls.
if plan on max effort cant beat th350. cheep to build.

I need it to be ok on the highway while obtaining atleast 12mpg. The 700r4 dident go out, the motor it was behind did. It was built for the power, thats why im asking if it bolted to the LT1 would it also bolt to my LQ9?
