Default ly6 + trans in 68 chevelle having trouble

LY6 with my 2004R transmission into my 68 chevelle. i am about 2-3 inches too far forward and i cant get the autokraft oil pan to clear the engine crossmember. i tried jacking up the tailshaft and it is a nightmare trying to get it in. at this point i am probably going to unbolt the trans from the motor and put them in seperately. if i do that, they will fit easily. any last minute tips to try?

Sorry to hear that bro, my LH8 H3 oil pan has about 3 inches of clearance from the crosmember in my 69 chevelle, I can stick my hand between it and the crossmember... It is best to put the motor /tranny in as one unit because it is hell to line up the tranny while the the motor is in....

The only thing I can think is either your

1.pan is not cut right
2. your motor mounts/frame stands are too far forward... may need to move 3-4 inches inward
3.Your adapt plates are on backwards or wrong sides.....

I don't know, just trying to troubleshoot with ya, pics would help.....

i dont want anyone to misunderstand me. it will fit once it's in, just getting it in is the problem. i cant seem to get clearance to install the engine and the transmission at the same time. the only pictures i have are here:

thats just it. you can install both while the front clip is still on. Alot of people eithe remove the clip completely or just the radiator support. I you dont want to remove any body pcs, merely seperate the eng/trans

i wound up having to seperate the engine and trans like i originally intended. i don't have the VVT anymore, just reused the cover. the balancer is a summit SFI approved.
