383 engine swap 87 trans am?

383 engine swap 87 trans am? I have a 1987 trans am with a forged 383 stroker and a t56 transmission. I like the engine, but its carbed, gets horibble mileage and i want a boosted application. I had a 2005 z71 and i loved the 327 because it revved pretty high and still got good mileage even with a automatic, AND in a heavy, lifted truck.
I got the engine from a friend that built it and i dont have the money to rebuild it. Its not running, great never had. I just cant tune it for some reason, plus i want a more reliable engine that dosent require adjustments every other day.
So im thinking about the 5.3 for the stroke, strength, and reliability when boosted. How much trouble would it be to bolt up in a thirdgen f body? Also i know i will have to change the input shaft in my t56 because it was from an lt1 so it will mount to the ls block. Will there be any other majore complications?
