Default Almost ready to fire

Needs a few more harness connections - coils are not mounted on the driver's side yet.

Worst part is I discovered an oil leak before the car has even started yet! I think it may be coming from the block-off plate on the oil pan where a cooler would hook up to, but not sure since oil is dripping from the bottom rear of the oil pan. Sucks, I'll have to unbolt the header to get clearance to remove it and figure it out.

Damn, looking good! Too bad about the oil leak though, what kind of oil pan did you go with?

Default Oil pan

Thanks for the comments. Oil pan is the GMPP muscle car oil pan. Fits perfect - even has the monza/vega specific notch for centerlink clearance.

Default Fans-WP

Hi Jimbo,

I've tried that but the car just wont cool. With dual pusher fans, you could barely feel the air coming through the radiator. I believe it has to do with the twisting action of the air coming off the fans and then immediately trying to straighten back out and flow through the radiator.

The radiator is a griffin dual 1.25" tube model 15 1/2" x 27" which is a good one...once you get air to flow across it.

I kind of like the wp off to the side since it make the front of the motor so much more visible. Definitely different.

cant argue there, Todd.

The wp setup, and the build itself are really cool and unique

Default Its alive

I fired the engine for the 1st time two weeks ago!

It fired immediately using an LS7 fuel/timing map that I'm using with the BS3 system. It ran super rich since I forgot to change the injector flow setting (it had 320cc instead of 530cc). Now running pretty good, but not idling well yet - prob an IAC issue. I plan to work on it next week after Christmas (took the week off). Hopefully do some tuning in the coming weeks and then road testing.
I was surprised at the idle. Pretty rough for a 236/246, .648"/.648" cam.

Hope to have a you tube video of the engine running soon.

Thumbs up LSX454 start up video

I was playing around with a video I made today and put some tunes to it. I'll try and create a better one later....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cdUzU3KWlA

Car is running great. Went to pick up some pizza's in it. I get a lot of funny looks from people. Some scared, some confused, and quite a few "what is that?" but mostly thumbs up.

Default 1/8 times

I've made about 6 passes so far:

All were within 3 hundredths:

6.70 is the best - 6.73 the slowest.

6.70@106.3 MPH with a 1.60 60' time

Ive got some suspension/torque converter work to do for sure, as I should be able to get that 60' down quite a bit.

My torque peak is 4900-5000 RPM, but my converter only goes to 3500 on the T-brake and flashes to 4150.

Very nice build.. I had a 75' way back in the day, it came stock with the 2bb 350/TH350 in it. So. it brings back some memory's !

I like the creative WP setup you did.. I was thinking on cleaning up the look.. a few suggestions or questions.. (if you don't mind).

1) Could you not do away with the elbows on the pump just run directly into in to the pump ?

2) Could you also mod the radiator to just have the AN fitting in the tank and do away witht he old style hose and block ?

3) is there space under that fender well (directly under where it is now)?.. hide it under there and you would just see the AN Fitting coming out/up.

That would really clean up the front a bit more !

Very good suggestions. I thought about mounting the WP totally out of view. I think I will look into doing that in the future.

Originally, i did it thinking I wouldn't have room for a LS electric pump mounted on the block, but actually there is room. After thinking about it (and the fact that I already had the BBC pump), I liked the idea of something different and being able to see the whole front of the motor. But now your idea is even better yet. Sounds like a really clean way to do it.

I do like seeing folks scratch their heads when they see the WP off to the side.
