Default need to know if this will work

ok, since i have learned that my original idea for my fuel system wont work, i have another idea and need to know if it will work. the 87 C10's were fuel injected, so i can put a tank, intank pump, and sending unit from a 87 in my 79, it bolts right up. the problem is that the stock 87 fuel pump is not enough psi for my 6.0. so can i use my inline walbro, and the stock pump together? the stock pump would get the fuel to the walbro and it would take care of it from there. i just need to know if this is possible. thanks

It should work fine but you would be better off just buying one for in tank.

This is a very bad idea, the stock pump would restrict the fuel to the Walbro pump. It would be like a garden hose attached to a fire hydrant trying to supply water to a fire hose, get the picture???

I just plumbed in a walbro 255 inline pump on my 85c10 and have'nt any problems. Its quiet & easy to get to for servicing! Why do you want to go intank?

if you rally want an inline...take the old pump out of the tank and install a hose in its place

I dont really want to. I was planning on using a inline walbro and my stock sending unit and tank, but a bunch of people on here said that wouldnt work. so im trying to figure out what will work.

are you using the stock sending unit and tank?

Yes I am. I used 3/8 fuel injection line for the feed & 5/16 for the return. My tank is a 1985 tank for a carbed truck. What motor & harness are you using?

The LO5 sending unit with a 96-98 pump will get the pressure and flow you need without modifying your lines to accommodate an inline pump

it is a 6.0 LY6 with factory harness. i sent it to speartech and they reworked it for me.

what do you mean when you say you used fuel injection line for the feed and return?

Instead of using braided lines, I used rubber lines that are pressure rated. I kept the truck intake, which has the fuel pressure regulater & the return line built into the fuel rail. The top of the tank has 3 lines coming out of it. Feed, return,& vent(charcoal canister). Make sure you know which ones which. By running the rubber lines, I was able to run them right to the fuel rail, which is on the drivers side. The factory lines are run on the passenger side on my truck. This was by far the easiest fuel setup I have done!

350 TBI

Early fuel injection for trucks. The sender accepts the same newer pumps that can power LSx engines. The first vortec trucks still used the SBC, but the pump was upped to 60psi with ample flow for LSx engines while still fitting in the conventional sending unit

so could i get a sending unit from a 87 truck and put a higher pressure pump on it, like a walbro in tank pump?

The little line coming off the top of the manifold going into the round piece is the vacuum reference for the regulator. The 2 lines you see coming off the back side are the feed & return lines.
