Default flex plate spacer question

I just want a quick confirmation that I am doing the right thing before i set my engine in for good

Pretty much I am hooking up a 5.3l (2000 yukon xl) to my 700r4/4l60

With the spacer I am suppose to just stick that thing right on the outside of the flex plate correct? Also I assume that the spacer's protrusion faces towards the converter as well.

This is the way I had it originally, and realized it was incorrect.

I tend to do things right until I over-think it so any help is appreciated

I also used this thread to justify my thinking, just wanted extra confirmation

yup you answered your own question . flywheel first then the spacer. and the other end will go into the snout on the converter.

Here is a pic of mine when I did the install. I used the stock flexplate and elongated the holes a little to fit the tq convertor.

It could vary by the spacer you have. If you read and understood Bo185 and I's comments on that thread and use the GM spacer you can't go wrong.

Got questions, just ask. I don't bite... unless she asks nicely.

I am confused too about all this.

I don't mean to hi-jack so sorry in advance.
I picked up a stock 6.0L from a 1999 3/4 ton truck. Some have told me that I don't need any spacer, that I just need to elongate the T/C holes and everything should bolt up.
Or, do I need a spacer??

Well it looks like from that picture I showed you above a mistake was already made.

Since i was test fitting it that way looks like what I did has it good and stuck. I tried for about an hour to get that spacer off today so woohoo!

Seems like with these swaps everything that can go wrong does go wrong, and things that shouldnt go wrong absolutely goes wrong, and things that go right end up being wrong also.

how the hell do i get it off so i can switch it to the right spot?

That is the GM spacer.

If it won't (obviously) pull off by hand or with a wiggle and screwdriver method you can use the two opposing threaded holes and a slide hammer. The tolerances are fairly tight but you should be able to slide it off if it isn't wedged a bit.

yea I'll probably have to use the slide hammer to get this one off. The one upside to breaking so much stuff during these swaps is all the specialty tools I get to collect because of it.....

I already had the tools from other projects... this was merely another reason to use them.

Someone told me my car habit was cheaper than drugs and alcohol, but I'm not sure... I can't afford drugs and alcohol.

wait a minute. i have the same spacer and flywheel. mine goes crank spacer then flywheel like in your first pic. check the links in your replys one of them has pics of both. the only diff with mine is 4l80. i have it bolted up and in car. the converter slid right to the flywheel with only an 1/8th inch gap when it was all the way in the pump. if you do want it off just screw a screw in the threaded holes and walk it off.

12551367 Replaced by 12621399 LS1 Flexplate for 4L80E transmission or six-lug converter. This flexplate is flat, and requires a special spacer(PN 12563532) and bolts (PN 12563533) not included. The spacer is installed between the flexplate and crankshaft flange.
Note: This flexplate has a six-lug bolt pattern for use with the THM 400 and 4L80 transmissions. The converter mounting holes must be modified for use with Gen 1 and Gen 2 converters with 298mm bolt patterns

this is the description listing for your kit also. says spacer between flexplate and flange.

I've never seen a spacer as shown in post #3, but that would work OK with the "curved" flexplate. The rule of thumb for the heavy GM spacer is: flat flexplate, spacer goes on crank and then the plate; curved flexplate: plate goes on first, then the spacer.

Yea maybe if i actually looked at the website I bought the parts from I would not have had this confusing issue. I guess ill just leave it the way it is and see if everything hooks up.. I just hate putting threadlocker on and going through the annoying torquing process then figuring out its all wrong
