I used the 98 f-body 3 wire sender with the 01 F-body PCM. It has the PCM output that you need, and a gauge output that is pretty close to the original. Made it very easy and works great for the 82 temp guage. Just connect up your original wire feed to this third wire output of the sender. I mounted it into the driver side front head, just where the 2 wire PCM CTS is located. No mess with drilling or taping anything. I can send you some hookup info I believe of the 3 wire if you give me your email address

If that doesnt work for you, Street and Performance has adapters which would allow you to use your original temp sender and plug it into the LS block. May not be ideal, as the sender will be outward of where its intended position would be, but your temp gauge will be working.

can you post some pics showing the clearance between the back of the engine and the firewall? also curious about clearance of the accessories and the steering box & front crossmember. I've been collecting parts for a LS1 conversion in my 73 too. Plan on pulling the engine and trans this fall.

if you dont flash out the rear o2 sensoers it will throw a code for sure but i dont know if it will derate or anything. you will need to flash out other stuff with it. if at all possible get a tune for it, mail order or dyno, and they should be able to get rid of the stuff you dont need

This is the intake compared to the radiator

This one was suppose to show the back of the block to the firewall. Its about 2 to 1 1/2 inch space

This was suppose to show the header space, but didnt come out well, but there is quite a alot of space. Im better long tubes might work but i played it safe and got block huggers, should be here tomorrow

This is the shifter location. I believe it came out quite perfect

There is alot of sapce for the fans and the space between the engine and front crossmember. And by the way those are fans from a c5 vette

Thanks for the pics. I am installing a LS1 & 4L60E from a 2000 Camaro. Planning on using the f-body radiator & fans too. Itching to begin but my wife and I moved into a new house and there are too many things I need to do before fall. Figure I'll begin in October.

congrats on firing it up. As far as VATS goes, you need a tuner package (I've been using LS1Edit; bought it 10 years ago) to turn it off. Hard to tell from your videos but is the engine starting and dying as soon as you turn the starter off?

what i think is happening is that i connected a push button to my starter. so when i turn my key on the pump kicks on and the by the time i push the button its already stoped. in the 46 second video was the first try and it started fast but then i didnt turn the key back on and off to pump more fuel so when i would push the button it would just crank.... i figured that on the second vid.. lol but on the vats bypass what do you think about this one???

The BCM is not required but I do have one. I don't plan on pulling my 383/muncie until October. I figure the car will be down until next summer once I begin.

thanks for the offer but I have all the wiring diagrams I need. just waiting till October before I begin. Actually I've been tuning the 383 with a wide band O2 and playing with the A/C. Guy at work GAVE me a 30# bottle of R-12. I'm getting 50 degF air out of the upper A/C duct but I am pretty sure I remember seeing a half-dollar size hole in the bottom of the evaporator housing the last time I was under the car. Going to get under it this weekend and take a look.
