If that doesnt work for you, Street and Performance has adapters which would allow you to use your original temp sender and plug it into the LS block. May not be ideal, as the sender will be outward of where its intended position would be, but your temp gauge will be working.

can you post some pics showing the clearance between the back of the engine and the firewall? also curious about clearance of the accessories and the steering box & front crossmember. I've been collecting parts for a LS1 conversion in my 73 too. Plan on pulling the engine and trans this fall.

if you dont flash out the rear o2 sensoers it will throw a code for sure but i dont know if it will derate or anything. you will need to flash out other stuff with it. if at all possible get a tune for it, mail order or dyno, and they should be able to get rid of the stuff you dont need

This is the intake compared to the radiator
This one was suppose to show the back of the block to the firewall. Its about 2 to 1 1/2 inch space
This was suppose to show the header space, but didnt come out well, but there is quite a alot of space. Im better long tubes might work but i played it safe and got block huggers, should be here tomorrow
This is the shifter location. I believe it came out quite perfect
There is alot of sapce for the fans and the space between the engine and front crossmember. And by the way those are fans from a c5 vette

congrats on firing it up. As far as VATS goes, you need a tuner package (I've been using LS1Edit; bought it 10 years ago) to turn it off. Hard to tell from your videos but is the engine starting and dying as soon as you turn the starter off?

thanks for the offer but I have all the wiring diagrams I need. just waiting till October before I begin. Actually I've been tuning the 383 with a wide band O2 and playing with the A/C. Guy at work GAVE me a 30# bottle of R-12. I'm getting 50 degF air out of the upper A/C duct but I am pretty sure I remember seeing a half-dollar size hole in the bottom of the evaporator housing the last time I was under the car. Going to get under it this weekend and take a look.
