I am working on the same issue.
I have a 98 Camaro alternator and will try a new configuration today. The thing about the 98 is its small and does not hit my frame. Only 105 amps though.
I tried Brn (Red on my harness) + 470 ohm resistor to B.
Gray to C on the four wire plug.
It finally worked but had to let battery almost die for it to kick in.
I ordered the two wire GTO 2004 alt today. Hope it fits and its 140 amps versus the 98 Camaro at 105.

I really don't get why the alternator is such an issue on these swaps.
I know I'm going down the same road as so many, about to buy a new/rebuilt alt to troubleshoot my issue. Tried all of the fixes I've found here and other LS' forums, but still have a battery drain from the alt.
Set up is '04 GTO, have the field wire going through a 194 lamp... charges great, so far as seeing ~14.7 volts at the battery and everywhere tested. But if the alt' is connected w/ the power off it drains the battery.
Again, something so simple, I've (we've likely) been doing swaps and a mechanic for years. But this is kicking my but.
If a new alt, going to try an F-body or truck, doesn't do it, I'm gong old school single wire.

According to what I found in Alldata the alternators with the external field duty control as found in the GTO and the newt trucks if the field duty control is not present the alternator will default to 13.8V. Therefore you can connect pin 1 to a 470 ohm 1/2 resister and a switched 12v source and it will still function. I run a 160amp truck alternator on my 240SX wired this way and it works fine.

Okay, the F-body alt' fixed my issue... the GTO alt' had a short in it.
The funny thing is, w/ the F-body being a little smaller I may have not needed to relocate the alt' to clear my steering box, 1989 Toyota 2wd Pickup. It's up on the passengers side... next to the battery, so at least now the battery has a good bit of more room. If I need to take my radiator out for any reason in the future I'll try to put alt' back in the stock location.

Attached is a pic I took of the front of the engine with the accessories and drive system installed. This is a complete 2010 Camaro set-up.
FYI, I am painting my L92 the same way that Chevy painted the ZL-1 all aluminum 427 in 1969: black oil pan, timing chain cover, water pump and accessory brackets. Everything else natural aluminum. Planning on polishing the valve covers to match the ZL-1 chrome ones.
