How to get codes from check engine light
Is there a way to pull off any codes from the computer without a scan tool? I could pull them up before using a jumper wire and counting the CEL lights flashes with the old computer. Can I do it with the new puter setup?
Hooked up the CEL and it is coming on. That and it idles high now that I put a mass air meter on. Before I put the mass air on it idle fine. Of course now the computer is hooked on the mass air like meth and won't run without it hooked up.
I already tripled checked for vacumn leaks, found one cracked hose fixed it, but still same problem of high idle.
Anyhelp would be mucho appreciated!!
thanks

Harbor Freight use to sell a code reader for $30. I have one and it works great. Notice the cheapest one they have now is on sale for $50. Looks like it does a little more than the one I have, although don't know why being multilingual would be desireable. all I want is the number codes.

+1 on the autozone idea
One a positive note I fixed my high idle, the throttle cable I used was off a 96-98 vortec tahoe and as just a little tight in the throttle bracket. Elongated the holes to move the bracket just a hair and now it idles normal again. Yeah for cheap fixes!
