Thanks Matt. I love how helpful this forum is. Between trying to figure out how to mount the body on the frame, how to mount a steering column, how to raise the floor of my bed at least 6", and etc. etc. etc. (this list could go on for miles) it's hard to become an expert with the LSx engine.

It's nice to know that I can jump in this thread, post a question, and get the answers I need quickly without being told to "search". A lot of these questions arise because I'm getting ready to pay someone for parts, and need to quickly make sure they will work before they get sold to someone else.

Good to hear I'm not the only one who can't find 5.3 information...

I just sent payment for a power steering pump, alternator, all brackets, and a starter.

I still need to get a new style truck water pump (so I can use the LS1 intake), and hope that when we swap oil pans and check the bearings, everything looks good.

I just read that you can modify a 5.3 windage tray to work with the LS1 F-body oil pan. Is this information correct?

Hi,
You CANNOT modify a 5.3 windage tray to work with a f body pan,I tried cutting one up with no luck.I didn't run one and had no issues.
Its good to see you building a truck with your Dad.I am sure you both will enjoy the memories and the skills he has passed down to you.
Cool build!!

Yes you can mod the windage tray, just cut one end off, there's a good thread with a pic here somewhere...doesn't have to be perfect, the LS1 trays are shorter.

We decided to put the steering column on hold while we think about how we want to mount it to the dashboard, and wait for some consulting from a friend.

The best S10 frame for these trucks is a regular cab frame, because the wheelbase is almost a perfect match. The frame I purchased is an extended cab S10 frame, with a frame that is 5" longer (couldn't pass it up because of it's low mileage and for the first phase of the build, it's perfect because I don't have to rebuild the suspension).

Here's some pics:

Before (bed is just resting on the frame for now):

During:

After (still needs some welding, and we'll be boxing in the weld for strength):

We're hoping to have all of the body pieces mounted to the truck by November, but I think the bed is going to be more complicated than we think. We have to raise the bed floor about 4" because of the S10 frame design, and the original steel bed floor, which has absolutely zero rot, is a bit warped and stretched, so we'll have to replace it.

Awesome! Thanks for posting that up for me.

And just an updated about all of my parts wanted requests, it looks like I have collected everything that I can think of that I need. 2008 waterpump with 20k miles is on the way, and power steering pump, alternator, and all brackets are on the way.

I'll be modifying my windage tray, looks simple enough...

I do think I still need a MAF, and possibly and idle speed motor? I'll have to take a good picture of the intake portion on my engine, and post that on here. This is the first LSx vehicle that I've ever owned, and my father's never owned an LSx, so this is all new to us. I'm a recovering Dodge Stealth/3000GT addict, so that's where most of my knowledge is.

Hopefully my next engine related questions will be about getting the ECM programmed, and what am I missing because it doesn't start

Wow, Can't believe I missed this one. Awesome project! I don't know about the 2010 camaro green, I saw it the other day and I don't think it'd look right on a '41. Keep up the excellent work; you won't regret the lsx switch.
