I chose to go with a H/C/I LS1. Tracey Scott with Cincy Speed is putting it together. Torquer V2 cam, stage 2.5 5.3 heads, LS6 intake, Hawks long tube conversion headers, Performabuilt lvl 2 4L60e, Edge 3200 stall, and the stock B/W 9 bolt with 3.27's. The long block is mostly together and the car is almost in primer and ready to go for it's mating with the drive train.
Thanks for all the input! Will update with pics after paint. She is getting BMW's Dark Silver Metallic for color (code 871).

SCRATCH WHAT I SAID; I just read what's above me.
I know others have said something's that are similar but if money is your issue, which for most of us it is, then go and build up the L98. My advice is to do it all at once or do as many things as you can at once as possible. I mean the heads, cam, internals, intake porting, exhaust, more air intake modding, weight reduction, etc. You can also do alot of weight reduction and that will help you performance wise too. Alot of it is easy and free to do yourself and you can make some of your own suspension mods too. Some stuff you'll need/want help with which is expected and you should also do some tuning too.

The truth is in the heads though. After you've done everything else to your engine up top and even if you've put a cam in, some roller rockers, etc. The heads is your key to the biggest power jump besides a supercharger, turbo or what not. Or NOS. Either way, much is possible to get the L98 doing well at the strip and on the street/highway. Good luck.

BTW, like others have said, the 9 bolt is much stronger than the 10 bolt rear end. Unfortunately GM didn't make alot of those back in the late 80's so they're hard to find parts for, etc. I have a 9 bolt which I got lucky in finding for $125. It's a full POSI and I was able to sell my other 9 bolt which was a 2:77 BW rear end. I got $150 for it.

First off, contact moates and get setup to where you can reflash the pcm yourself. Next, get a single plane setup for efi. The accel dfi intake comes to mind since thats what I have seen used. If you go with a 383 then look for some heads around 200cc. Those with a gm847 cam and 11 to 1 compression should put you around 11.3 in the quarter. Thats with a 3.73 9 bolt, built 700, and a 3600 stall. Spraying a 150 shot will get you in the mid 10's and you can drive the car everyday. There are better choices cam wise for this setup. If you could tolerate alittle more stall it would be even better.

Well, never mind. I didn't take the time to read the second page.

Dude the TPI is junk, and the LT1's are outdated to. You will have to replace everything intake to pan to compete with any cheap junkyard LSX, hell even if you get a $400 4.8L you can get a cheap turbo kit and make 500rwhp out of it stock. Go with a LS2 aluminum block if you wana build a complete great handling touring car, but if you just wana drag race get an iron block and turbo or just go cheap nitrous route, throw a cam in it and you WONT be disappointed at all. Easy power and great tuners everywhere.

OOOPS! Sorry everybody. Somehow I forgot to update this thread. Wound up going with an LS1. PRC 5.3 stage 2.5 heads, Torquer V2 cam, LS6 intake, Underdrive pulley, Hawk's headers, Performabuilt stage 2 4L60E with an EDGE 3,400 stall, custom Y into a Magnaflow cat-back. It will be speed density tuned. Battery will be trunk mounted. Also went with Spohn k member, A arms, torque arm/crossmember/drive shaft safety loop, Adjustable QA1's up front, Factory injectors re-flowed to somewhere around 54 pounds (in case I go with a supercharger later. The fuel pump and fp regulator also were chosen to allow for future supercharging. It is going together very quickly now after nearly a year of prep and getting parts together. Enjoy the pics.

Tracey Scott works there and has done all of my LT1/ Ls1 work for the last 6 years or so. I won't let anyone else touch my F-bodies.

Interior is almost in and rear shocks are in. Just exhaust and a few loose ends from here and she goes for an alignment.
