Default engine not sitting level in chevelle

68 chevelle
l92
edelbrock headers and mounts
short and wide mounts with the corresponding frame mounts in the stock orientation

when i put the engine in, i noticed i could only get one side to fully seat in and i wound up enlarging the bolt hole on the drivers side to get the bolt to fit through. now months later i look at it, and the engine is higher on the drivers side where it did not sit in all the way. the drivers side header is touching the frame, and i think this is one possible reason i cannot go any further down to get it seated in and the bolt holes lined up. i can seat that drivers side but that forces the passengers side out and vice versa.

should i flip the motor mounts around to move the engine back or should i just shim the engine up using washers between the edelbrock adapter and the engine mount? any other suggestions would be appreciated.

You can try shiming the mounts or the stands.

You can try to also Loosen the Frame stands bolts and then dropping it down.. see if the movement of the frame stand will help seat and align the through bolt.

You might have to oblong the holes in the Crossmember to get the Frame stands moved to the correct location where all will seat and bolt up.

Good luck..

Hmmm.. BBC frame stands ... not the normal for most Adapter plate setups. As most are built around the SBC / 350 frame stands. Short and Wide also.. But ??

I built my Nova ones looking at the Edelbrock plates from pictures.. I oblonged the frame Stand holes on the Crossmember to get them work with the through bolt. Only had to do it about 1/4"-3/8" for each hold.

the "big block" mounts are the same as 350 mounts, just not the 307 mounts like i have. my car came with a 327 and some 327s use the short and wide some use tall and narrow. i called them big block mounts so there is no confusing them with the other style.

The BBC on a Chevelle is offset to clear the engine from the steering and AC Box.. as compared to the SBC ones.

so where would it relocate the engine to in relation to where it sits now with the 307 style frame stands and short/wide mounts?

different frame stands:

i'm thinking of putting 1-2 washers in the drivers side to get the header off the frame, then putting 4+ washers in the left side to level the engine out. new frame stands and mounts are going to cost me 100 bucks and that doesnt even garuntee it fixes my problem. the engine is in the car and i have been racing it for 6 months. i'd rather have it leveled out though.

i just measured it and the engine is leaning 3 degrees side to side. i believe i can get away with 1 washer on the drivers side and 2-3 on the passengers side.

I used BBC stands on my 70 F-body. Worked perfect.
