5.0 / AOD shifters don't have enough detents for manual first. If you get the shifter from a 2.3 / A4LD, it has the "extra" detent.
Alternately, B&M can put together a custom version of their console Hammer. Their universal-fit Hammer comes with everything needed to run a 4L60, while the regular console Hammer is a direct fit in the stock center console of the Fox body Mustangs, '87-'93.

I got one from a mid 80's thunderbird. it has 4 gear selections so you can manually grab 1st. It looks very much like a factor aod shifter but with 4 gears! I believe there is an escort one like that too.

Since nuckifuts hasn't answered, I can help this much: B&M does offer an adjustable bracket for the trans, so that different amounts of shifter movement can result in different amounts of detent shaft movement.
You may need a B&M cable, IDK, and they make a bracket to attach their cable to the 4L60.
I probably don't need to spell this next part out, but the idea is for the shifter detents and transmission detents to match up both in park and in manual first.
From there, the rest should be close enough.

which cable did you use. Do you have any pics? I am having a hard time. I have a 4l60e but I can not get the aod shifter to go into full park. I can get it to go into all the other gears it will just not park. I am using a lokar column shifter rod kit any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated

I've a similar problem with the Fairmont I'm working on. I used that Lokar rod unit and I tried to bend it up appropriately but it isn't that great. I was hoping to find a solution for a column shift that has that extra position. I really want the look of the stock shifter and be able to grab 1st on the 4L60E. I know this is a late reply to your message and this thread but I wonder if you ever made any head way on this.
