Trailblazer SS drivetrain in 97 C1500
i've been digging around looking for info on how the AWD set up in the trailblazer SS works in an attempt to plan this swap for my daily driver. I'd like to look closer into the swap and if anyone has info on anyone that has done a similar swap I'd love to see it. I'd like to do it because I really want something different and like the idea of AWD in a truck instead of the standard 4X4 drivetrain.

I would forget about the AWD.

The trailblazer front diff is mounted to the oil pan so I don't think you need to worry about the frame. You just need a t-case from the tbss, escalade, denali. The tough part would be the front axle shafts and spindles. The front diffs in the trailblazers aren't very big or strong though.

i know it would be alot easier to do this on a 4x4 frame or truck but im not afraid of extra work to do it on a 2wd.
is the front diff really mounted thru the oil pan? that sounds a lil bit of a weak design.
im also aware that i would probably need custom drive shafts for this application. i have a local shop that can help me out in that department.
anyone know of front spindles that would work or if the stock trailblazer front spindles could be modified to work for this hybrid?

that would be a weak front end weight rating. Just pick up a roller frame out of a 4x4 and put in a awd tcase, it has a coupling that allows for some give so it doesnt bind in parking lot maneuvers.

well from further research it looks like the front axle simply bolts to the oil pan, which makes sense as to why an axle shaft runs thru the pan. maybe i can just get the engine centered with the wheel centerline and do things that way. if anyone has some good pix id love it
