Default Fuel delivery to the engine?

Okej,

have been thinking of using the Russell 641600 kit for my Chevelle 1970 Ls1 build. Maybe piece together a similar kit my self, have not desided yet.

The question I have is can i use the stock Chevelle tank and just drill in a return line from the Corvette filter or do I need to buy another tank?

Have been thinking of puting in a sump like Competition Engineering C4040 in the original tank if that would be necessary.

Funny, i have been looking at this same thing for my chevelle. I have no fuel system in my car currently so everything will have to be fabbed for mine. I was looking at that kit to do my build but there were parts like the pump i didnt want because I am going to be using a mid 90s b body impala tank and a racetronix kit with 255 walbro pump.
The tank is slightly larger but will fit... and its free for me( friend has a impala ss parts car)

Spectra also has a tank that is a direct replacement that is setup for FI that might also be another option for you.

If you want to mod your tank, Many will use the Tankinc kit, it will add a intank pump, pickup and small sump.

I am using a 95 Impala tank with a Racetronix kit.. other than the size big, no one really notices that the back of the tank does hang down a bit more. it has work out well, cheap and easy install.

So does this mean that I cant use the original tank? I have now pieced together a kit of my own with a Walbro 255 external pump IF I can use my original tank and just put in a return line.

The kit from Tank inc is a option to but then the whole fuel system would be a little prize...

The complet kit that i have pieced together now would be a total of 380 and that is with all AN fittings and steel braided hose and tube.

Like the Russell kit but not as prize. Steel braided hose to the pump and regulator and from that a aluminium tubing to the front.

Yes you can put a return line into the original Chevelle tank or if your tank has 2 or 3 vents lines. you can use one of those. (check rockauto.com, gastanks.com, etc for a good price on one).

question is, what type of pump are your going to use.. Internal or external.. ? If external, Yes I would sump the tank. Just be careful on welding the tank. get it cleaned real good.. or start with a new replacement tank. they are not that bad in cost..

What or how much HP are you expecting to produce ?... When it comes down to it, what ever you make will work, its just some designs work better than other. For FI, you have to make sure your design will not end with the pickup going dry as the car moves or else you have to keep at lease a 1/4 of gas all the time. Sumping is a must, you down want to lean out the engine due to fuel starvation.

BC

You might study some othe setup and find out what has worked best for something you are trying to use, there as been a few threads here on what other have done with their projects.

Okej,

here comes a complete drawing and parts list of my fuel system. I drew it up in a CAD program so that I could se it as a whole system.

1. Tank inc. PA-4. High Flow Fuel Pump - 250 Liter Per Hour 1
2. SUM-220647. Fitting, Adapter, Straight, Male -6 AN to Male 1/4 in. NPT, Aluminum, Blue Anodized, Each 2
3. SUM 220690. Fitting, Hose End, Straight, -6 AN Hose to Female -6 AN, Aluminum, Red/Blue Anodized, Each 2
4. SUM-230610. Hose, Braided Stainless Steel, -6 AN, 10 ft. Length, Each 1
5. SUM 220690. Fitting, Hose End, Straight, -6 AN Hose to Female -6 AN, Aluminum, Red/Blue Anodized, Each 2
6. Russell Performance 640850. Fuel Rail Fitting, Aluminum, Blue, Straight, 3/8 in., -6 AN, Each 1
7. Russell Performance 640860. Fuel Rail Fitting, Aluminum, Blue, Straight, 5/16 in., -6 AN, Each 1
8. Wix Filters. Regulator/filert 495-33737 1
9.Russell Performance 640940. Fuel Rail Fitting, Aluminum, Blue, Straight, 3/8 in., -6 AN, Each 1
10. SUM-220633-2. Fitting, Tube Nuts, -6 AN, Aluminum, Blue, Pair 1
11. SUM-220634-2. Tube Sleeves, -6 AN, Aluminum, Blue Anodized, Pair 1
12. SUM-G2538. Tubing, Aluminum, Natural, 3/8 in. x 25 ft., Each 1
13. SUM-220632. Fitting, Coupler, Straight, Male -6 AN to Male -6 AN, Aluminum, Blue, Each 1
14. SUM 220690. Fitting, Hose End, Straight, -6 AN Hose to Female -6 AN, Aluminum, Red/Blue Anodized, Each 1
15. SUM 220690. Fitting, Hose End, Straight, -6 AN Hose to Female -6 AN, Aluminum, Red/Blue Anodized, Each 1
16. Russell Performance 640850. Fuel Rail Fitting, Aluminum, Blue, Straight, 3/8 in., -6 AN, Each 1
17. SUM-890023. Relay, Fuel Pump, 30 Amp, Single Pole, Each 1

You can use other brands off course but I dont think you will find a cheaper fuel system. This as a whole is cheaper then the Russell kit I was first thinking of using.

I put the parts number in the list so that you cane see witch part I am using. Hope you can find it useful when choosing your fuel delivery system, if you have not done that yet.

Which is a better option...running the Tank Inc. PA-4 pump or an inline w/ a CE rear sump? My current tank has a rear sump so I was planning to run an inline before discovering the Tank Inc. pumps the other day. Just wondering if it's worth trying to sell my current tank and buying a new stock tank to install the Tank Inc. PA-4 pump.

I will fix a bigger pic for you to look at. But it will have to happen on Monday as I have the cad drawing in my work computer. To busy this weekend to go back to work and get it.

I want to point out that I have not yet built the system and that it might have flaws.
