Took the car to the track Sunday. It ran great considering that the E-brake has been on for 2weeks, but I had know idea, and it took out the rear, and had the car sounding like it had a stall. The muffler shop redid my exhaust, and had the E-brake cable pulled tight which had the rear brakes on for a long time, killed the rear end! Along with me thinking the trans was going out. Change trans, and only when fixing the whinning rear did I find the brakes were on. The car has 4wheel disc brakes that adujust up when peadal was pressed. Ran a new 5.0 Mustang, and a full race Nova. The car beat both cars with all thoses thing wrong with it. Should run alot faster with the brakes off, and rear end not grinding!!

Awesome build man, I love 70's-early 80's Trans AM's. I had a 76' for my first car with a built 350 in it when I was 16yrs. I'm currently building a turbo 4.8 for my '74 260z. I'm using 241's, TBSS intake man, 92mm Tb, '04 Z06 cam/valve springs, 7.425 hardened pushrods, ARP main cap/rod/head studs, 76mm turbo, LS9 HG. I still need quite a few parts still but I'm hoping for 580-650whp in it.

I need to see video of your monster if possible !

Finally got the brakes right!! I had a bracket on the rod that go from the pedal to the back of the booster, and it was flexing which made the brakes not work. Anyway after breaking everything I touched, I made the right lenth rod by welding a push rod to the end of the old rod to make it the right lenth! Works great, and can build 5 pounds boost with no problem. Cant seem to upload videos here, but I did get a few on youtube. Look for my screen name, or 1981 Turbo T/A, LQ4 swap GT45.

Also got video of me running a new 5.0. Look on youtube for 1981 Turbo T/A, LQ4 GT45 vs New 5.0. My brakes were not right then, so I had to leave at idle!

Well did a few changes to the car, swapped intake to a LS1, took truck intake off. Installed new bearings, and the front seal was leaking bad, changed it out. The car idles about 100rpm over last intake. Also added corvette engine covers, looks a lot less junky! Got to figure how to bring IAT down!! 142-150 on a 1/4 mile run, and I have dual meth spray!

Think I got IAT problem fixed, took some of the same stuff I put under my hood and wrapped the intake pipe from where it comes in the engine bay all the way to the TB. May not look great, but it works, its the same a dynamat, just the lowes kind!

Just updating to keep track of changes. Installed a new converter TCI 3000, and the car gained 10mph in the 1/4. Installed a 2step to improve my 60ft it helped, but found that I had to much fuel going in off idle, so the car is crazy strong out the hole, going to Jackson Saturday for the last show down of the year, and hope not to break anything, and to get me a money race. Looking to add traction bars, or something like CalTracs, the car sits down in the rear really hard when it launches.

So you gained 10mph over the 127 you were going?

Yes the car gain 10mph, It was blowing thru the converter. That setup was with the 5.3, on 14psi 93,and meth. Anyway Im changing my setup as money allows. Ordered a stroker kit with weisco pistons, and K1 crank, and rods. Setup will be balanced, with bearings, going into a .030 over LQ9 block. Kit should be here any day. Im told the GT45 will be way to small, Im using 317 heads, that me and my 11 year old son ported. My concern is do I need a new cam(LS6) It works great with the 5.3, and 6.0. With this 408 will it hurt performance? I hate to change push rods again(7.450) Also will the LS1 intake kill the car? I figure I can use what I got, and add things as I go as long as I dont need to pull the engine. Plan to add 2 walboro intank pumps to feed this car, as Im shooting for 800+HP. Oh and looking to get a 91mm or bigger turbo. Will the 60lb injectors with meth be enough for 800HP? Any idea on cams would be a great help, I want the car very streetable, the LS6 cam fools the hell out of folks until the car launch!

This thing is nasty! There isnt a better Turbo T/A then the 81 Recaro! I plan on going this way with my 71 T/A when I get sick of the 455.

On that run against the 5.0, was the E-brake dragging?

Yes the car came with rear disc brakes, and when they did the exhaust they had pressure on the cable, and the brake adjust as you press the pedal. It killed the old rear, and a rebuilt one before I knew it was the problem, Felt so dumb!

Well trying to a mass parts to make a stronger engine before I put engine together. I scored a Carb Victor Jr intake last night, and I will help the new engine if I install a larger cam, but I need to drill the holes for the injectors, anyone ever did this, or do anyone wont to swap the a EFI Victor inake for my Carb inake. Im a kinda hand on type guy, so drilling it for injectors is not a problem to me. Install better springs in heads.
